St. Louis Cardinals at Milwaukee Brewers
It's not very often that I release a Play of the Day selection on a team that has lost 2 games in a row. There are exceptions to the rule, like when that team is facing a team that has lost 6 in a row. St. Louis sends Todd Wellemeyer to the hill tonight to face a Milwaukee team that is struggling, having lost 6 straight while scoring only 4 runs in their last 3 games. It must be noted that all three of those games were on the road at Florida, but they also scored 3 or less runs in 5 of their last 7 home games. Wellemeyer has kept the Cardinals in every game that he has started, with 35 hits and 40 strikeouts in 42 innings of work, while making it into the 6th inning in 5 of his 7 starts. Manny Parra gets the start for the Brewers. Parra has been hit hard this season, allowing 38 hits in 27 innings of work. He has also issued 17 walks in those 27 innings which has contributed to his high Era of 5.86. As mentioned earlier, St. Louis has lost 2 in a row, but what better way to start a winning streak than to face a team that is struggling to score runs, and just so happens to be starting a pitcher that his been hit very hard in his last few starts. Not to mention that we are getting all this in a small underdog role.
