Pittsburgh's John van Benschoten pitched an inning of no hit ball against the Tampa bay Ray's on Saturday. He basically was helping a Pirate pitching staff that has been plagued by the injury bug of late. Benshcoten will be making his second start of the season, and is looking for much better results this go around. In his first start of the season, he gave up 9 hits and 6 earned runs over 4 innings of work against the Braves. The Reds will give the ball to Daryl Thompson, who is making only his third start of the season. He has given up 12 hits and 4 earned runs over his first two games, spanning 10 innings. The Reds are hitting .323 and scoring 6.75 runs a game vs righties over their last 5 games, while the Pirates are hitting .247 and scoring 3.40 runs a game vs righties over their last 5. Pittsburgh's Benschoten is allowing opposing teams to hit .342 against him this season, and if he doesn't get better in a hurry, he will be in for a short outing at Cincinnati tonight.
