Edinson Volquez pitched well the last time he face the Brewers, limiting them to 6 hits and 1 earned run over 7 innings of work. Opposing hitters are hitting .227 against Volquez on the season, and he has a whip of 1.30. Volquez will be opposed by Dave Bush of the Brewers. Over his career, Bush has struggled against the Reds. He has a lifetime Era of 8.38 vs them, while they have a lifetime batting average of .340 against him. Things haven't changed this year. In his only start vs the Reds this season, he gave up 4 earned runs over 5 innings, and the Reds hit .316 against him. The Brewers must get better against right handed pitching if they intend on making the playoffs. They have hit a measly .189 and scored just 2.42 runs a game over their last 10 games vs righties. Not to say that Cincinnati is a whole lot better, because their not. They are hitting .230 and scoring 3.03 runs a game vs righties over their last 10. The big difference in this matchup is in the quality of the starting pitchers. Volquez is the staff ace for the Reds, and has had success against the Brewers, while Bush is hanging on to the fifth spot in the rotation for the Brewers, and has had no success against the Reds.
