Colorado Crush at Utah Blaze
COLORADO CRUSH – This is a match-up of two teams that are coming into the playoffs with some momentum. However, the knock on the Crush has been their inconsistency this season. The knock on the Blaze has been their inability to generate stops. Herein lies the key to how Saturday’s first round playoff match-up will play out. Sure, the Crush were inconsistent this season but do you really think they will bring a poor effort and/or lack motivation in a playoff game? Of course not! As for the Blaze, do you really think that after a season full of struggles on defense they would actually “figure it out” suddenly? Of course not! The point is that while the Crush will indeed bring their ‘A game’ today it is Utah’s continued defensive struggles that will lead to their demise in this wild card playoff match-up. The Crush defense has a solid pass rush and they should be able to get good pressure on Blaze QB Joe Germaine. The Utah quarterback has a tendency to hold on the ball too long and that can lead to some ‘coverage sacks’ for Colorado in this game. The Crush will use this solid defensive effort to keep the Blaze from opening up a big, early lead. If Colorado “hangs around” early in this game, as they should be expected to, they have a chance to notch the upset victory in the second half and that is why there is a lot of value with the big points being offered to the Crush in this match-up. The Crush have had some injuries at WR that has affected their depth but QB John Dutton has had a very solid season for Colorado and he should enjoy facing this porous Blaze pass defense. On the other side of the field Colorado’s defense should receive a big play or two from DB Rashard Floyd to help key the Crush’s bid for an upset victory today. Floyd is one of the top defensive backs in the league! Look for him to help insure that the Blaze don’t get off to a quick start in this game. This will allow the Crush to develop some early confidence and take the crowd out of the game. That is why the play here is clearly the Crush plus the points as an upset looms here. Just like New York upset Dallas -7 last night, a similar upset should be on the way on Saturday afternoon for Colorado!
