ATS: Philadelphia Soul -9.5 (-110)
LOSS for -3 unit(s)
New York Dragons at Philadelphia Soul
PHILADELPHIA – The Soul defeated the Dragons in each of their two regular season meetings. The average margin of victory was 25 points and yet this line is sitting right around a ten. There is indeed solid value with Philadelphia at home. Keep in mind that one of the problems for an underdog in a rivalry match-up like this is that they sometimes let the emotions get the best of them. The Dragons have a knack for taking advantage of opportunities for cheap shots and then paying the price in terms of critical penalties. Of course this has an impact on momentum on both sides of the ball and it’s a big part of the reason that the Soul can “get into the heads” of the Dragons and once again dominate this match-up. In terms of the specific match-ups here, even though the Dragons offensive line improved some during the season it is still an area of concern in these playoffs. That concern gets magnified now that they are on the road facing a very powerful Philadelphia pass rush. Even though Dragons QB Aaron Garcia is a solid veteran QB he will most likely not have time here to get the ball downfield to his receivers. This will quickly put the Dragons into “playing-from-behind” mode and they will not be able to keep up with the high-powered offense of the Soul. This was true during the regular season and it will prove true again in these playoffs. The Soul are very solid at the QB position and they can pick apart an overaggressive Dragons defense. During the regular season, New York's defense was really more opportunistic than good! Against the talented offense of the Soul, those opportunities for New York's defense to “make something happen” simply will not be there. That's why the Soul are worth laying the big points here as Philly should roll and win this one in a home rout. The Dragons are off of an upset by a double digit margin last week but they now come back as a double digit dog in the divisional round…and it is with good reason! It’s tough to win two straight on the road in the playoffs and, as proven before, when the Dragons lose to the Soul they don’t just lose, they lose BIG! Another big loss for New York here and Philadelphia wins in Blowout of the Year fashion!
