New Orleans Hornets at San Antonio Spurs
UNDER the total in San Antonio vs New Orleans @ 8 PM ET After holding the Spurs to an average of just 83 points per game in the first two games of this series, the Hornets allowed San Antonio to score 110 on them in Game Three! Granted, the series had shifted to San Antonio but this, of course, was still unacceptable in the eyes of Hornets coach Byron Scott. The emphasis coming into Game Four is quite evident for New Orleans. They want to avoid the same defensive lapses that cost them in Game Three. Simply put, the Hornets had a letdown in Game Three, particularly in the second half, that was quite similar to their round one Game Three loss to Dallas. The Hornets responded well to that loss and they should also respond well here. However, the reason the Under is arguably the best option here rather than a side play on New Orleans is because the Spurs certainly have some muscle to flex on defense as well. The only reason the Hornets still scored close to a hundred points in Game Three was because of the wild second quarter (33-33) these teams played. Overall, the Spurs defense enjoyed some success in Game Three because they simply conceded that Chris Paul was going to get his points so they shifted defensive specialist Bruce Bowen away from Paul and over to Peja Stojakovic. The result was solid for the Spurs as Stojakovic was held to just eight points after being a much bigger offensive threat in the first two games of this series. Another key area for defensive improvement will be the paint in Game Four tonight. The Spurs Tim Duncan has battled a flu-like virus through the first few games of this series but hes feeling better now than hes felt at any point in the series. With the extra time off to get ready for this crucial Game Four, Duncan will most certainly be at his best on the defensive end tonight. After registering just one block in each of the first two games of this series, Duncan had four in Game Three. Look for more of the same tonight and, as this total has risen higher from the opener, we are simply seeing more and more value with the UNDER!
