San Antonio Spurs at New Orleans Hornets

UNDER the total in New Orleans vs San Antonio @ 9:35 PM ET After scoring just eighty points in Game Four in San Antonio on Sunday, one might think that New Orleans coach Byron Scott might be most upset about the Hornets offense. However, it was the lack of defense that caught Coach Scotts ire after the loss on Sunday. New Orleans scored just eighty points on Sunday but Coach Scott knows that the Hornets offense is at its best when it feeds off the defense. New Orleans is at its worst when it doesnt get stops on the defensive end and the Hornets allow the Spurs to work the game into a half court affair. Of course the Spurs are a polished, veteran team that knows how to get what they want. That said, even though the Hornets are working very hard at improving their defense (and making some adjustments) heading into this crucial Game Five, its the Spurs who are going to continue to impose their will defensively and that will continue to force half-court sets. Of course half-court sets are what the Spurs thrive on and theyre also what under players thrive on and thats us tonight! San Antonios results have improved since Tim Duncan got healthy and since they switched up the defensive assignments. Duncan was bothered with flu-like symptoms early in this series but hes now back to being the dominant player he is capable of being when healthy. He alters opponents offensive strategies and he does it very well! The Spurs also switched things up by putting Bruce Bowen on Peja Stojakovic and this has totally shutdown the offense of Stojakovic! Since half time of Game Three in San Antonio, the Hornets have gone six straight quarters without scoring more than 22 points in a quarter! Needless to say, the defensive adjustments of the Spurs are working! However, New Orleans held San Antonio to an average of just 83 points per game in the two games played in New Orleans in this series and they absolutely can get back on track defensively with this series shifting back to New Orleans. Coach Scott has some defensive adjustments the Hornets are working into their repertoire to slow down the Spurs offense in tonights Game Five. In a crucial game featuring two of the best defensive clubs in the Western Conference, this one definitely has U-N-D-E-R written all over it!
