Los Angeles Lakers at Boston Celtics
UNDER in Boston – This is a brutal scheduling situation for playing basketball. After finishing up the game Sunday in Los Angeles both teams boarded a plane for a six hour flight back east. They then lost three hours in the process so the sun was already rising in the east on Monday morning by the time they got to Boston. Now, they are playing the very next night less than 48 hours after wrapping up the game in Los Angeles. Note that the ugliest game in this series, from a scoring standpoint, was Game Three’s 87-81 Lakers win. That game came after a long plane ride from east to west and was also played on short rest. Now, for Game Six, the players are even more tired, the travel situation is even worse (going from west to east) and yet we have quite a sizable number to work with here (total is in the 191-192 range). Note that there a number of veteran players who are wearing down in this series. This is particularly true of Boston because remember that each of the Celtics first two series went seven games and this is catching up with them now. As for the Lakers, they will have trouble playing the style they want tonight. When at home, Boston tends to force the pace and that means they slow the tempo down in this game. The Celtics will be looking to force this into a half-court game and generally they are successful in doing so at home. The only two games that have gone over the total since this series got underway were the two games after the teams had an extra off day between games. As noted above, there is not only a lack of an extra off day here, it’s a brutally tough coast-to-coast scheduling situation. When you also factor in the fatigue at this late juncture of the season you can see why a “grind-it-out” style of game is what is on tap tonight. UNDER!
