Boston Red Sox at Tampa Bay Rays

Rays – The home team has won all eleven games between these two teams so far this season. This included yesterday’s 3-1 win for the Rays and Tampa Bay is now 32-13 at home on the season. In contrast, the Red Sox are just 19-26 on the road this season. So, why the fair price posted on the Rays for this game? A lot of that has to do with Daisuke Matsuzaka’s impressive overall numbers for Boston so far this season. However, despite those strong numbers, Matsuzaka just recently came off of the disabled list. Although his second outing after coming off of the disabled list was quite solid, Dice-K did struggle badly in his first start coming off of the disabled list. Matsuzaka also does not have a  good history against Tampa Bay. The right-hander was 0-3 with a 5.40 ERA in his four starts against the Rays last season. The Red Sox have found out first hand just how tough the Rays are at Tropicana Field. For further evidence of that fact note that the Rays have won all five games here against the Red Sox and they’re now going for a second straight home sweep of the BoSox! Wednesday night, Boston (and Matsuzaka) will be taking on a Rays club that is now 16-7 overall since getting swept at Fenway Park in early June! Look for the Rays lineup to get the job done against Matsuzaka tonight but also look for a strong start from Scott Kazmir to play a key role. The Rays left-hander has not been at his sharpest of late but he still has yet to allow more than three earned runs in an outing this season and this will be his twelfth start of the year. Kazmir has been particularly strong at Tropicana Field this season. The southpaw is 4-1 with a 1.24 ERA and he’s held opponents to a .153 batting average in his six starts at Tropicana Field. Garza struggled at Boston in early May but that was his first start of the year after beginning the season on the disabled list. Now, Kazmir is at home and he’s back to full strength. For the 12th straight time this season, the home team wins the Red Sox/Rays match-up tonight as this will be another Home Dominator!
