Texas Rangers at New York Yankees
OVER Yankees – Joba Chamberlain is coming off of a very strong outing for the Yankees. However, Chamberlain had a multiple run lead throughout the game as the Yanks were up 2-0 by the time he took the mound for the bottom of the first and the Yankees went on to win by a 10-0 final. Those are the easy type of games for a pitcher to pitch in as it’s easy to get comfortable on the mound and just bring it. The interesting thing about Tuesday’s start for Chamberlain is that he threw 114 pitches in the win over Pirates and he is a converted reliever. That means it will be interesting to see how he responds off of a start where he really extended himself more than he has in any other start this season. Also, Chamberlain is facing a Rangers club that has the top slugging percentage (.456) in all of baseball! Texas had averaged over 6 runs per game in their last 27 games prior to yesterday’s tight, low-scoring 2-1 Rangers win. Look for the offense to return to full force tonight as they take advantage of Chamberlain’s tired arm. As for the Rangers pitching situation, they send a struggling Kevin Millwood to the mound. He got absolutely crushed in his last start as he allowed 7 earned runs on 12 hits in just five innings of work at Houston. Things aren’t likely to improve for him at Yankees Stadium either! Millwood is just 1-4 on the road this season and he’s given up 24 runs on 44 hits in his last 28 innings away from home! Millwood is also just 1-4 in his six starts against the Yankees. Alex Rodrigeuz, Jason Giambi, and Bobby Abreu are three Yankees that have crushed Millwood in their prior match-ups. The Rangers bullpen has been performing well all of the sudden but they could take a blow with Eddie Guardado leaving after warm-ups in last night’s game. The Yanks pen, although solid this season, could get called upon too early in this one as Chamberlain may not last long after that long outing in his prior start. Over in a Slugfest is the story here!
