Texas Rangers at Minnesota Twins
UNDER Minnesota – Both of these clubs have potent offenses and each of these lineups have been flexing their muscles quite often recently! However, the key is that a break like the All Star Break can break the rhythm of a hot lineup and so neither team really needed the break but, of course, there was nothing they could do about it! Now, with two pitchers on the mound who should excel tonight, this one has pitchers duel written all over it. Kevin Millwood shows an 0-4 career mark against the Twins. However, he has not pitched poorly at the Metrodome in his career. He is 0-2 in Minnesota but Millwood has compiled a rock solid 2.81 ERA at the Metrodome. Even though Millwood was struggling prior to the All Star Break he did put together three quality starts in his last five road starts. Also, the Rangers right-hander was bothered by a groin injury and the extra rest during the All Star Break could help him to get the second half off to a strong start! Look for him to hold the Twins bats “in check” as Minnesota struggles to find their hitting rhythm again in this first game after the break. Keep in mind the Twins bats were already slowing down some leading into the break as they averaged just four runs per game in their last eight games before the All Star game. The Rangers bats certainly should struggle tonight too! Texas will be facing left-hander Glen Perkins of the Twins. In his last 13 starts, the southpaw has produced nine quality outings! Perkins does a good job of pitching inside and challenging hitters and he allowed just two earned runs in six innings of work against the Rangers earlier this season. Perkins has allowed three earned runs or less in seven straight starts and another big effort should be on tap tonight. Perkins had some shaky outings earlier this season but he really seems to be settling into a nice groove now and he is 4-0 in his last four decisions. Look for Millwood to match him pitch for pitch though in this one and that’s why the play here is the total rather than the side as this one should stay well UNDER.
