Kansas City Royals at Florida Marlins

Photo_mlb Play on Florida Marlins $ line (-) vs Kansas City @ 7:10 PM ET The Marlins were in the NL East cellar last year so we are still able to get some line value with them early this season. Even though the Marlins are currently in 1st place in the NL East while the Royals putrid offense continues to struggle, Florida is indeed a very small home favorite here. Adding even more value to the Marlins in this spot is that theyve always had a knack for excelling in interleague action. Floridas long-term 105-81 mark against the American League is the third best among all teams in terms of interleague success. The Marlins had won seven straight games before losing three straight at Cincinnati. However, the finale got rained out against the Reds last night and that means a resurgent Andrew Miller gets the start tonight. Miller has a 6.52 ERA on the season and this is masking the fact that hes a much better pitcher than what his full season numbers show. This has been evident in his current stretch of solid work in which hes gone 3-0 with a 3.86 ERA in his last four starts! He struck out seven in seven innings of shutout work in his most recent start. Look for him to say hot here. Miller is a solid 3-1 with a 2.70 ERA in his career interleague starts. The Royals have suddenly won four straight games but their eight run outburst yesterday was more of an aberration than anything else! Prior to yesterdays win, the Royals had scored just 38 runs in their 12 games this month. They will need much more offense than that to win todays match-up because the Royals send a shaky Brett Tomko to the mound tonight. Tomko is just 1-4 with a 5.67 ERA this season. The Royals righthander has lost four straight decisions and he gave up six earned runs on nine hits in just 5.1 innings of work on Saturday. Also, in his career interleague action, hes accumulated a lofty 5.46 ERA. Look for Tomko to get rocked by a Marlins offense that is much more powerful than that of the Royals. Florida has averaged 6.5 runs per game in their last ten games and they will continue to produce tonight as they give Miller some solid run support! Florida is the play here.
