MONEYLINE: Cleveland Indians -138
WIN for +1.45 unit(s)
Toronto Blue Jays at Cleveland Indians
Play ON Cleveland Indians $ line (-) vs Toronto - GAME ONE @ 4:05 PM ET The Blue Jays have seen things go from bad to worse recently and they now face a very tough match-up today. Vernon Wells broke his wrist in Friday nights loss at Cleveland and he could be out for up to eight weeks. This is very bad news as an anemic Blue Jays offense could ill afford to lose its top RBI man. Toronto has averaged less than 3 runs per game over their last 23 games. Also adding to the injury woes were two more players added to the disabled list on Thursday, just prior to the Wells injury. Both David Eckstein and Josh McDonald are now on the DL and the Blue Jays continue to struggle to score runs! Facing Fausto Carmona of the Indians is unlikely to help matters for the struggling Toronto lineup. The Indians righthander has a 2.95 ERA despite having a lot of control issues this season. Carmona is able to induce a lot of ground balls and thats how hes managed to get out of jams that hes brought upon himself. In four starts at home, Carmona has been even more impressive with a 2.28 ERA so far this season. Carmona has also excelled in daytime outings as hes 10-4 in his career with a 2.85 ERA under the sun. Carmona, especially considering the makeshift Blue Jays lineup hell face, certainly appears to have an easier match-up today than Torontos AJ Burnett will have. The Blue Jays righthander has a reputation based on his past success and that is what is giving us some line value here because, right now, Burnett is not pitching near as well as he has in past seasons. Burnett did strike out a season high ten batters in Tuesdays start but he allowed five runs on nine hits in a losing effort. Burnett has not fared well against the Indians in his career and this has been particularly true at Cleveland where hes lost all three starts. Overall, in four career starts against the Indians, Burnett has accumulated an 8.46 ERA. Its not likely to get any better for Burnett today. The Indians have won eight straight games at home against Toronto and theyve outscored the Blue Jays 18 to 1 in winning the first two games of this series!
