Los Angeles Dodgers at Arizona Diamondbacks
UNDER dodgers/diamondbacks – A big first-place battle takes place in Arizona on Saturday. After yesterday’s 8-7 extra-innings Dodgers victory, look for a much lower-scoring game tonight. The pitching match-up is conducive to a pitchers duel as Chad Billingsley of Los Angeles matches up with Dan Haren of the Diamondbacks. Billingsley is 5-1 with a 2.33 ERA in his last six starts. He has struck out 38 in about 33 innings during this solid stretch of work so, as you can see, Billingsley has certainly had his “good stuff” and these numbers are not a fluke. The Dodgers right-hander struggled when he faced the Diamondbacks back in April but that was when he was in poor form. Prior to this season, Billingsley had fared very well against the Diamondbacks and now that he is “back in the zone” we look for more of the same tonight! Billingsley has a 2.65 ERA on the road this season and he’s only been hit at a .214 clip away from home. Although they enjoyed an offensive explosion last night, Arizona had previously been held to three runs or less in seven of their last eleven games! For the Dodgers, yesterday’s game was also a rare offensive explosion. Prior to scoring eight runs yesterday, Los Angeles had been held to four runs or less in 16 of their last 23 games. Facing Dan Haren of the Dbacks means a return to low-scoring ways is quite likely for the Dodgers! Haren has simply been amazing since the calendar hit June. In the month of June Haren was 3-0 with a 1.32 ERA and teams hit just .171 against him. So far in July, the Diamondbacks right-hander has a 1.80 ERA and teams are hitting just .185 against him! Haren is an amazing 7-2 at home this season with a 2.43 ERA. Overall, opponents are hitting just .211 against him this season. Haren has averaged seven innings per start in his last eight starts and with these two hurlers battling it out on the mound tonight a 2-1 type game should come as no surprise at all. The UNDER is the way to go in Arizona tonight!
