MONEYLINE: Vancouver Canucks -130
LOSS for -5 unit(s)
Detroit Red Wings at Vancouver Canucks
Detroit sits atop the Western Conference with 69 points which is tied with the Rangers for the most points in the NHL. The Red Wings have been unstoppable at home as they have accumulated 41 of those points on their home ice thanks to their record breaking 20-2-1 record at Joe Louis Arena. They have been average on the road, posting a 14-14-0 record with five of those 14 wins coming in extra time. Great teams do in fact win close games and the Red Wings have done that but here comes a true test.
Vancouver defeated Chicago in a shootout to open the second half of the season and it now riding a modest three-game winning streak heading into its final home game against Detroit this season. Speaking of final home games, this also closes a six-game homestand for the Canucks and a win here would finalize a winning set. They have a four-game roadtrip on deck and it won't be easy ion facing Nashville and three other teams that are fighting for playoff spots in the Western Conference.
The Canucks trail Detroit by three points for first place in the Western Conference so there are a big two points at stake tonight. Vancouver closed January with a 7-2-2 record but it was not satisfied as it had too many turnovers and gave up too many goals. Tonight, goalie Roberto Luongo will get the start after taking the last game off so he is very well rested. He is 20-10-4 record with a 2.39 GAA and .918 save percentage this season and he is 2-0-1 with a 1.30 GAA in his last three games against the Red Wings.
For Detroit, goalie Jimmy Howard has been one of the best net minders in the NHL this season but facing the Canucks on the road has been an issue. He is 2-3-0 with a 3.51 GAA in five career starts at Vancouver. The home team has held serve in the first two meetings this season and the favorite is 13-6 over the last 19 meetings. Vancouver is 7-0 in its last seven games against teams with a winning percentage above .600 and 15-6 in its last 21 games following a win. 9* (64) Vancouver Canucks

St. Louis Blues @ Los Angeles Kings Thursday May 3, 2012 10:05 pm
The Kings have done the unthinkable so far. They took out Vancouver, the Western Conference and overall league leader in points, 4-1 in the opening round of the playoffs and are now up a commanding 2-0 against St. Louis, second in points in the NHL. They have done so by going a perfect ... read more

Washington Capitals @ New York Rangers Monday April 30, 2012 7:35 pm
This is obviously a big game for Washington but I think this is actually a bigger game for the Rangers. In the first round series against Ottawa, New York won the first game but it lost the second game to lost home ice and it was eventually taken to seven games with the need to win ... read more

Nashville Predators @ Phoenix Coyotes Friday April 27, 2012 7:00 pm
It was anything but a normal first round of the playoffs as home teams were only 18-230 heading into the second round so home ice has been far from an advantage. That was the case in the first round series for Phoenix and Nashville as the home team combined to go 3-8 in the 11 games ... read more

Florida Panthers @ New Jersey Devils Tuesday April 24, 2012 7:30 pm
We won with the Rangers last night as they were in a must win situation and we will back the Devils tonight for that same reason. New Jersey is down 3-2 in this series and needs a win to force a Game Seven on Thursday which would take place in Florida. This price may seem high but ... read more

San Jose was able to gain a split in St. Louis and got hold of the home ice advantage but it didn't last long as the Blue came in and won Game Three on Monday to get home ice back. St. Louis has a chance to put the Sharks in a tough spot with a win tonight but with San Jose's back ... read more

Vancouver Canucks @ Los Angeles Kings Wednesday April 18, 2012 10:05 pm
Even though Vancouver is hanging by a thread of having any chance of winning this series, there will not be any quit form the Canucks here. If not for anything else, they are playing for pride and at least a chance to head back home in search of the near impossible. They are also ... read more
