New York Islanders at Philadelphia Flyers

The Flyers are coming off a loss against the Rangers on Sunday which pushed them five points behind New York for first place in the Eastern Conference. It was the second straight loss for Philadelphia which is just 1-2-1 since returning from the All-Star break. One of the best home ice advantages has taken a back seat as well as the Flyers are just 1-2-2 in their last five home games and this rough patch started with a home loss to the Islanders which sets up a revenge opportunity for tonight.

New York is coming off a shootout loss in its last game against Buffalo on Saturday which was its first loss since coming off the break. Still, the Islanders are well out of the playoff picture as they trail eighth place Ottawa by 11 points. They have made a small run by going 6-2-2 over their last 10 games but at this point it could be too little too late for New York. The Islanders have been horrid on the road, going just 15-37 in their last 52 games as a road underdog between +151 and +200.

The loss to the Islanders last month was a rare one as Philadelphia had won 26 of the last 29 meetings with New York dating to a home loss on April 7, 2007. The streak included 13 straight home wins against the Islanders so it will be out to avoid a second straight loss. The Flyers have lost consecutive games six times this season but it has not reached three straight losses as Philadelphia is 5-0 in its five other games coming off back-to-back losses, winning those games by a combined score of 21-9.

The Islanders will be without one of their top defensemen tonight as Travis Hamonic is out for two weeks following a broken nose suffered on Saturday. And better news for the Flyers is that right wing Danny Briere could be back in the lineup after missing six games because of a concussion. Getting off to a quick start is big for the Flyers have been outscored, 7-2, and outshot by nearly a 2-to-1 margin (65-36) during the first period of their last five losses. They are 6-1 in their last seven games after scoring two goals or less in their last game. 8* (4) Philadelphia Flyers

St. Louis Blues @ Los Angeles Kings Thursday May 3, 2012 10:05 pm
The Kings have done the unthinkable so far. They took out Vancouver, the Western Conference and overall league leader in points, 4-1 in the opening round of the playoffs and are now up a commanding 2-0 against St. Louis, second in points in the NHL. Washington Capitals @ New York Rangers Monday April 30, 2012 7:35 pm
This is obviously a big game for Washington but I think this is actually a bigger game for the Rangers. In the first round series against Ottawa, New York won the first game but it lost the second game to lost home ice and it was eventually taken to seven games with the need to win ... read more

Nashville Predators @ Phoenix Coyotes Friday April 27, 2012 7:00 pm
It was anything but a normal first round of the playoffs as home teams were only 18-230 heading into the second round so home ice has been far from an advantage. That was the case in the first round series for Phoenix and Nashville as the home team combined to go 3-8 in the 11 games ... read more

Florida Panthers @ New Jersey Devils Tuesday April 24, 2012 7:30 pm
We won with the Rangers last night as they were in a must win situation and we will back the Devils tonight for that same reason. New Jersey is down 3-2 in this series and needs a win to force a Game Seven on Thursday which would take place in Florida. This price may seem high but ... read more
