MONEYLINE: New Jersey Devils -155
WIN for +3.23 unit(s)
Montreal Canadiens at New Jersey Devils
You look at recent history of this series and Montreal seems to be the clear choice here as the road team is a perfect 9-0 over the last nine meetings. This includes a 2-0 mark this season but that streak comes to an end tonight. Montreal won in New Jersey in the only meeting there but that was way back in December and the Canadiens are struggling horribly. They opened the second half with a home loss to Buffalo and are one of only five NHL teams yet to win 20 games.
New Jersey got the second half off to a good start as it defeated the Rangers in a shootout on Tuesday. That snapped a three-game winless streak, all of which has been at home, and this is where it needs to get going again. The Devils were 12-7-1 at home following a win over Winnipeg prior to the three-game skid so they have been solid there for the season. After scoring just one goal in each of those three losses, New Jersey put up three goals in regulation against the Rangers.
Montreal has not missed the playoffs since 2007 but they are tied for the second-fewest points in the Eastern Conference and trail eighth place by 10 points so it is going to take a massive hot streak for the Canadiens to even think about the postseason. Playing better on the road is a start but there is no sign of that as Montreal is 2-6-1 over its last eight games away from home. Losing has come in bunches as the Canadiens are 3-6-2 in their last 11 games immediately following a loss.
This is a pretty big game for the Devils as they have a brutal stretch coming up as they face Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, New York and St. Louis in their next four games. They have had success against teams like Montreal as they are 39-19 in their last 58 home games against teams with a losing road record and 21-7 in their last 28 games as a home favorite. Montreal meanwhile is 6-20 in its last 26 games against teams with a winning record while going 3-9 in its last 12 games as a road underdog. 8* (54) New Jersey Devils

New York Rangers @ Washington Capitals Wednesday May 9, 2012 7:35 pm
Washington will have a tough time recovering from the Game Five loss as the Rangers tied the game with less than 10 second left and won the game just 95 second into overtime. The Capitals were on the verge of taking control of this series but now finds themselves in a must win situation ... read more

St. Louis Blues @ Los Angeles Kings Thursday May 3, 2012 10:05 pm
The Kings have done the unthinkable so far. They took out Vancouver, the Western Conference and overall league leader in points, 4-1 in the opening round of the playoffs and are now up a commanding 2-0 against St. Louis, second in points in the NHL. They have done so by going a perfect ... read more

Washington Capitals @ New York Rangers Monday April 30, 2012 7:35 pm
This is obviously a big game for Washington but I think this is actually a bigger game for the Rangers. In the first round series against Ottawa, New York won the first game but it lost the second game to lost home ice and it was eventually taken to seven games with the need to win ... read more

Nashville Predators @ Phoenix Coyotes Friday April 27, 2012 7:00 pm
It was anything but a normal first round of the playoffs as home teams were only 18-230 heading into the second round so home ice has been far from an advantage. That was the case in the first round series for Phoenix and Nashville as the home team combined to go 3-8 in the 11 games ... read more

Ottawa Senators @ New York Rangers Thursday April 26, 2012 7:00 pm
The Rangers have been taken to the brink of elimination and they will be looking to avoid a similar fate that Vancouver went through and that is the conference points leader going down in the first round of the playoffs. After falling down three games to two, New York won on the ... read more

Florida Panthers @ New Jersey Devils Tuesday April 24, 2012 7:30 pm
We won with the Rangers last night as they were in a must win situation and we will back the Devils tonight for that same reason. New Jersey is down 3-2 in this series and needs a win to force a Game Seven on Thursday which would take place in Florida. This price may seem high but ... read more

New York Rangers @ Ottawa Senators Monday April 23, 2012 7:00 pm
The leader in points in the Western Conference is gone as Vancouver lost in overtime Sunday to fall to the Kings 4-1. Now the Rangers will be out to avoid a similar fate as they need to win tonight in Ottawa to extend this series to a seventh game. It has been a tight series so far ... read more

St. Louis Blues @ San Jose Sharks Thursday April 19, 2012 10:35 pm
San Jose was able to gain a split in St. Louis and got hold of the home ice advantage but it didn't last long as the Blue came in and won Game Three on Monday to get home ice back. St. Louis has a chance to put the Sharks in a tough spot with a win tonight but with San Jose's back ... read more

Vancouver Canucks @ Los Angeles Kings Wednesday April 18, 2012 10:05 pm
Even though Vancouver is hanging by a thread of having any chance of winning this series, there will not be any quit form the Canucks here. If not for anything else, they are playing for pride and at least a chance to head back home in search of the near impossible. They are also ... read more

Phoenix Coyotes @ Chicago Blackhawks Tuesday April 17, 2012 9:05 pm
Chicago managed to attain its goal in the first two games in Arizona and that was gaining a split to gain home ice advantage. Now the Blackhawks look to take command of the series on Tuesday back home. After losing Game One in overtime, Chicago repaid the favor by defeating the Coyotes ... read more
