St. Louis Cardinals at Texas Rangers

Texas evened the series last night and pivotal Game Five is set for tonight with the winner having a huge edge heading into the final two games. It becomes more important for Texas because the final two games are in St. Louis so being up one game will be almost needed. The Rangers have now played 14 games in the postseason, and they were able to use less than four pitchers in a single game for the first time. That is a big factor coming into Monday because the bullpen was hammered on Saturday and the break was absolutely necessary.

C.J. Wilson has been anything but effective this postseason but I think this is the game that he puts the critics to rest. He has had four chances to put his team ahead in a series this postseason and has failed to do so all four times. He is 0-3 with a 7.17 ERA in those four starts with Texas losing three of those games. His best outing was last time out as he was a third of an inning short of a quality start despite issuing six walks. I think the return home will do him good and the Rangers are 13-3 in his last 16 starts as a home favorite between -110 and -150.

It has been a completely opposite postseason for Chris Carpenter who has allowed a total of five runs over his last three starts. This includes a quality outing in his Game One start against the Rangers where he allowed two runs on five hits and one walk in six innings. His last road start was that gem against the Phillies where he tossed a two-hit shutout so it has been 17 days since his last road outing. Only 11 of his 19 road starts on the season have been quality games and the Cardinals are 1-5 in Carpenter's last six starts as an underdog between +110 and +150. 10* (960) Texas Rangers

Jake Arrieta has been either really good or really bad this year and I expect to see the latter tonight. He is coming off consecutive horrible starts at home against the Rangers and Rays to push his ERA to 5.21 on the season and while he has been better on the road, this is not the ... read more

The Mets have been one of the bigger surprises in the National League and with Philadelphia and Miami off to slow starts, they are right in the thick of the National League East.
