Youngstown State Penguins at Illinois Chicago Flames

It has been a tough season for Illinois-Chicago as the Fames are 2-9 in the Horizon League and 6-15 overall. They are a win away from tying last year's overall win total and surpassing their number of conference victories from last season and while it may not seem like anything positive, there have been many positives. Of their nine conference losses, six of those have come by six points or fewer so it shows they have been very competitive. Of the 16 conference losses last year, only five were by six points or less.

While the Flames have been a major disappointment, Youngstown St. has been the surprise of the conference. Picked to finish last by most, the Penguins are off to a 7-4 start in the Horizon and currently sitting in third place. They won a combined four conference games the past two years which shows how big the improvement has been. Youngstown St. is coming off a big road win over Wisconsin-Milwaukee as nine-point underdogs on Monday which makes this a very short turnaround.

The biggest conference loss so far this season for the Flames was by 21 points and that was the game at Youngstown St. They were outshot 49.1 percent to 32.1 percent and the game was actually much worse than that as the Penguins led by 30 points at one point in the second half. That sets up a big revenge situation for us here and one that is pretty strong based on the fact of how it happened and that is was the biggest loss in league play. The home team has won the last meetings, all of which were payback games.

On the season, Illinois-Chicago is 0-6 in conference road games but a much more respectable 2-3 in conference home games with one loss coming in overtime and another by just five points. The road win was a big one for the Penguins on Tuesday but they have not won consecutive road conference games since February 2009 when they pulled the Chicago sweep. That was the last time the Penguins won at UIC Pavilion and it won't happen here as the Flames avenge that earlier blowout. 9* (524) Illinois-Chicago Flames
