ATS: Butler Bulldogs +7.5 (-110)
WIN for +4.55 unit(s)
Butler Bulldogs at Duke Blue Devils
I was definitely surprised by this line as I had it pegged around 4.5 points but this line is telling us that Duke would be favored by 9 points over Michigan St. on a neutral floor and I am not buying that. Based on the lines, if the Spartans had won over Butler, that is the number we would see based on this number and the fact that the Bulldogs were favored by a point and a half on Saturday. Obviously lines are not determined that way but it does give up a good comparison to look at, especially when we are dealing with a very public team in Duke and a mid-major team in Butler. I played against Duke on Saturday and one of the statistical reasons was three-point shooting. The Blue Devils shot light out from behind the arc against Baylor and my thought was there was no chance they could do it again but they did. After hitting 47.8 percent from long range against the Bears, they followed it up by hitting 52 percent from three-point land against West Virginia. I don’t play the ‘overdue’ theory but I simply cannot see the Blue Devils converting that type of percentage against a great perimeter defense that Butler possesses. The Bulldogs have held all seven postseason opponents to fewer than 60 points while also holding 12 of their last 13 opponents to fewer than that as well. The argument is that the Duke offense is too good and it will not matter. The same could have been said for Murray St., Syracuse, Kansas St. and Michigan St. who were held to 25.5, 22.5, 23.6 and 22.6 points respectively below their season averages. Butler has been able to force the opponent to play its style of grind-it-out, slow paced basketball and I don’t see it changing here. Especially with the opposition having just one day to prepare. Duke has a defense that is just as good and with these two solid defenses, we should see a low scoring game and based on the numbers, the projection is 68-60 or 68-61. Those offensive totals are both about eight points lower than the offensive scoring averages of both teams. However the defensive totals are not in line. The number for Duke is right on but the projection for Butler is allowing close to nine points more than its season average and that is giving the Blue Devils offense way too much credit. From a straight number standpoint, there is significant value on the Bulldogs. One of the major questions in this game is the availability of Butler forward Matt Howard who is considered a gametime decision because of a mild concussion. There is no way he misses the most important game of his life and if he somehow does sit this one out, I would not want him in there anyway. He does not come across as that type of player however as I think it will take a lot more than that to keep him out. He went only 1-7 and scored four points in 15 minutes against the Spartans so his absence was not huge there. It will be big if he cannot make it but that does not mean Butler is done. The defense of both sides puts Butler into a great situation as well. Play against neutral court favorites after a blowout win by 20 points or more in a game involving two excellent defensive teams that are allowing 63 or fewer ppg. This situation is 68-37 ATS (64.8 percent) since 1997. 10* Butler Bulldogs

Wisconsin Green Bay Phoenix @ Wright State Raiders Friday February 10, 2012 9:00 pm
This is an important game for both sides as conference tournament seedings are coming more into play as the season is winding down. In the Horizon Tournament, the top two seeds receive first round byes and while neither Green Bay nor Wright St. need to worry about that, they fall ... read more

Virginia Tech Hokies @ Miami Hurricanes Thursday February 9, 2012 9:00 pm
It has been a rough season for Virginia Tech but things have been so close to being a whole lot better. The Hokies are only 2-6 in the ACC but of those six losses, four have come by four points or fewer with the other two coming at the hands of North Carolina and Duke. Virginia Tech ... read more

Iowa Hawkeyes @ Northwestern Wildcats Thursday February 9, 2012 9:00 pm
Northwestern is coming off a big road win on Sunday at rival Illinois and now it is being asked to lay a big number against a team that possesses a better conference record. The Wildcats are now 4-6 in the Big Ten following two straight wins but getting that third straight victory ... read more

Arkansas Little Rock Trojans @ UL Lafayette Ragin Cajuns Thursday February 9, 2012 8:00 pm
This is a big game in the Sun Belt Conference but the line is not telling us that. Arkansas-Little Rock leads the SBC West Division by a half-game over tonight's counterpart and that being the case, this line is off a few points in my opinion. The Trojans are riding a three-game ... read more

North Carolina State Wolfpack @ Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets Thursday February 9, 2012 7:00 pm
Here we have a very good team, NC State, trying to get some road revenge on a very bad team, Georgia Tech. The Wolfpack lost at home last month by 11 points and it really was an inexcusable loss as they were riding a six-game winning streak and had just won their ACC opener over ... read more

Michigan Wolverines @ Nebraska Cornhuskers Wednesday February 8, 2012 8:30 pm
Nebraska used to own one of the better home court advantages when it was part of the Big XII Conference but the home floor has not been a very big edge this season. The Huskers were decent during the non-conference portion of their schedule but even some of those wins were suspect, ... read more

Kansas Jayhawks @ Baylor Bears Wednesday February 8, 2012 7:00 pm
Kansas is coming off a tough loss on Saturday at Missouri and things will not get any easier here as it travels to Waco with first place in the Big XII on the line. The Jayhawks and Bears both trail Missouri by a half-game but this game is arguably bigger for Baylor. A loss here ... read more

Florida Gators @ Kentucky Wildcats Tuesday February 7, 2012 7:00 pm
First place is on the line in the SEC tonight. Even though a Florida win would still have it a half-game back from Kentucky, the all-important head-to-head win would go a lot further. The Gators have won seven straight games since a loss at Tennessee back at the start of January. ... read more

Cal Santa Barbara Gauchos @ Cal State Fullerton Titans Saturday February 4, 2012 9:00 pm
Catching Long Beach St. is the Big West Conference but CS-Fullerton does have a chance at catching Santa Barbara for second place and it can do so with a win on Saturday. The Titans are coming off a lopsided victory over a decent Cal Poly team on Thursday as they won by 22 points ... read more

Oregon Ducks @ Colorado Buffaloes Saturday February 4, 2012 9:00 pm
Oregon is coming off a win at Utah that was a lot tougher than expected. The Ducks were tied at halftime and actually fell behind midway through the second half but used an 11-0 run to pull away in what can be considered a misleading final score. Oregon improved to 16-6 overall including ... read more
