From everything I have read and heard it appears Detroits Chauncey Billups will not play today. I believe Detroit would rather give him a couple more days of rest rather than risk losing him for the rest of the playoffs.
Billups being out is not why I am taking Orlando. In fact, missing a key player usually makes the other teammates really step up and play with more intensity to make up for the loss. That is coupled many times with the other team relaxing somewhat as they are not having to play against a key opponent. However, this is a playoff game in front of the Magics home fans and I believe any letdown will be minimized.
Rookie Rodney Stuckey out of Eastern Washington University replaces Billups. Stuckey is actually a bit bigger than Billups and can post the smallish Jameer Nelson up. However, he does not have Billups experience nor outside shooting capabilities. Stuckey is learning how to play point guard in the NBA and does not know the Detroit offense like Billups. Subsequently, you will probably see Tayshaun Prince playing a point forward with the offense many times going through him.
Orlandos Rashard Lewis got going in Game 3 and made it difficult for the Detroit bigs, mainly Rasheed Wallace, to guard him. That might have affected Wallaces offensive game as he was just 4 of 15 from the field. Orlandos quickness and outside shooting ability caused Detroit to play smaller than normal with seldom used Fabio look-alike Walter Herrmann getting 13 minutes. Wallace and Antonio McDyess both had four fouls and their minutes were limited.
Playoff teams over the past five years who are road dogs and scored less than 20 points in the fourth quarter of their previous game, a road loss, are just 5-23 SU and 9-19 ATS in their next game. That drops to 1-7 SUATS if it is a Round 2 game.
