Everybody knows Bostons terrible road record in the playoffs. That includes the Pistons. Sure, this is the playoffs and every game counts, etc, etc, etc. However, even the smallest of edge in professional sports can help a team cover, or not cover, the point spread. Detroit won on the road, they now have the home-court advantage. They are at home and though they will not admit it or maybe even realize it, there might be a small bit of overconfidence inside the Pistons considering the Celtics recent road record.
This is it for Boston. In the first two rounds of the Playoffs, they had not lost at home and thus never lost the home-court advantage. If they dont win this game and snatch back the home-court advantage, a fantastic season will probably be down the drain. This should be maximum effort and hustle from Boston. Faster rotation from the strong to the weak side is needed from the Celtics, the best defensive team in the NBA this year.
Over the past five years, Detroit has not done well against the spread at home in Round 3 going just 4-9 ATS. That record falls to 1-5 ATS if the Pistons won their previous game. The Pistons are just 4-11 ATS in Round 3 if they won their previous game, 2-8 if it is Game 2 or higher of the third round. Teams who lost their previous game at home and are now away and the line is +6 or less and it is Round 2 or higher are just 7-17 ATS. Teams who have outscored their opponent in the paint by 10 points or more in the past two games as Boston has done with Detroit are 23-13 ATS, 15-6 if it is Round 2 or higher, 4-1 if it is Round 3.
