Maybe one of the most shocking games of the season happened last time out for the Hurricanes, as Carolina shocked the NHL with a shutout win at Boston, 3-0. Then the Hurricanes followed that up with a Home win over the LA Kings, 2-1. This from a club that is last in the SouthEast division, has a road record of 6-13-6, and is ranked in the lower end of the NHL in scoring, goals allowed and power play/penalty killing. The question for Carolina will be if they look to deal their top defenseman, Tim Gleason, as the trade deadline approaches. With Gleason a free agent after this season, the last place Canes might want to see what they can get from him and there is a long list of contenders that want Gleason. Meanwhile, Anaheim looks to continue there recent success at home, winning seven of their last nine at the Honda Center. The Ducks needed eight rounds of the shootout against Calgary on Monday, but got the win as netminder Jonas Hiller came up with some big stops. Even though we are dealing with two last place teams here, I still like to look at the situation. And the situation here is that we have the Ducks at home, where they have won seven of their last nine against the Hurricanes who have won just two of their last 11 road games. In addition, Carolina has scored two goals or less in nine of their last 11 overall. Have to throw out that freaky win by Carolina at Boston and chalk it up to a Twilight Zone moment. Don't expect the Canes to get up for the Ducks like they did for the Bruins. I'm taking the hot home team here and laying the price.
