Reason: Leave us out of the Big Dance, huh? We'll show you! North Carolina (19-16) didn't deserve the Big Dance, but they have been tearing up this tourney, on a 3-0 SU, 2-1 ATS run. The Heels have a slew of big men with Deon Thompson (13.7 pp, 6.4 rpg), Will Graves, Tyler Zeller (9.2 ppg, 4.8 rpg) and Marcus Ginyard. Plus, one of the main reasons UNC has won three straight games and will play Rhode Island on Tuesday in the NIT semifinals at Madison Square Garden is the improved play of guard Larry Drew. In the first round, the sophomore posted solid numbers (9 points, 6 assists, 2 turnovers) against William & Mary. Then he converted a breath-catching, game-winning drive-and-layup - over the outstretched arm of the NCAA's all-time leading shot-blocker, Jarvis Varnado - in the second round at Mississippi State. He is averaging 8.3 points, 6 assists and 3 turnovers in the NIT and looks a far cry from the player who struggled with pushing the pace. Rhode Island is all uptempo, and they can struggle against teams that can pound the glass and/or play defense. They lost 3 times to Temple -- the last two badly, and UNC can pound the glass.
