MONEYLINE: New York Yankees -120
WIN for +2.5 unit(s)
New York Yankees at Philadelphia Phillies
At 7:55pm our selection is on the New York Yankees over the Philadelphia Phillies. For the Yankees, they must be disappointed that they didn't win both home games, but at the same time it must feel pretty good to be heading into the #3 spot in the rotation and know that you're about to hand the ball to the all-time wins leader in Major League post-season history, and that's exactly what they will do tonight as veteran southpaw Andy Pettitte takes the mound for them. If Pettitte has been the most consistent starter in post-season history, then perhaps his fellow lefthanded opponent tonight, Cole Hamels has been one of the most inconsistent, albeit in a much shorter career than Pettitte. The memory of Hamels' dominating performance in the 2008 post-season when he led his team to the World Title and went 4-0 in the process still seems fresh, but it has been a much different Hamels that we've seen so far in the 2009 playoffs as the tall lefty has struggled mightily. Indeed, in his last 3 starts, Hamels' ERA is 6.75 (compared to Pettitte's 2.37 ERA over his last 3 outings). So far the starting pitching match-ups in this series have gone lefty-lefty (game 1), righty-righty (game 2), and now lefty-lefty again for game 3 and the Phillies are no-doubt hoping that the result tonight will be similar to that of game one. But that one featured Cliff Lee and not Hamels, and unlike the latter, Lee has been, well, rather Pettitte-like lately. Take the Yankees. Good luck, as always...Al McMordie.

Update -- see end of write-upOriginal pick WU follows: While neither of tonite’s SPs (Carpenter for SL and Harrison for Texas) could be considered Over pitchers TY, Rangers’ Harrison has had a significantly higher ERA TY in night starts than in day starts (4.35 at night ... read more

We witnessed arguably one of the greatest baseball games ever. Unfortunately we were on the losing side as the Rangers had a three-run lead in the seventh, a two-run lead in the eighth, a two-run lead in the ninth and another two-run lead in the 10th and failed to bring home the ... read more

3* World Series Game 7 SMASH on Cardinals -145 The Cards now have the momentum on their side after last night's thrilling victory. They also have history on their side. The Cardinals are 7-3 all-time in the seventh game of a World Series. Also, the home team ... read more

We also like the Under here, despite not getting the 7.5 totals line that we got in game two with this same pitching match-up, but not surprised since that match-up produced just a 3 run Under with both SPs pitching brilliantly, making it 1-4 to the Under in the five games of this ... read more

We believe that tonite’s game in SL, like games one, four and five, will again show how much difference the site of a big game like this one can make, especially given the home/road tendencies and #s of tonite’s SP for SL, Jaime Garcia, who is a decent 13-9/3.6 overall ... read more

The Texas Rangers come to St. Louis for game six just one game shy of their first World Series Championship. The last thing they want to do is go to a pressure packed game seven on the road, so whatever they have will be in full force tonight for this one. Colby Lewis handcuffed ... read more

OVER 7<P>Line dropped a half run, on the premise that the bullpens are more rested. St. Louis left 11 stranded in game 5, they have hits, but no runs. St Louis HAS to score and score plenty to win this game and extend the series. I am unclear wether they can ... read more

5* World Series Game 6 *BEST BET* (FOX) on Cardinals -115 I had a 4* selection going on the Cardinals yesterday, but I've bumped it to a 5* following the rainout. The extra day off takes away virtually all the momentum Texas had gained. It also allows the Cards another ... read more

We won with the Rangers again in Game Five and now Game Six shifts to St. Louis for a must win game for the Cardinals. That does not mean that St. Louis will win. Texas is in excellent position to bring home the World Series as the team that wins game five in a World Series tied ... read more
