Seattle Mariners at Texas Rangers

At 8:05pm ET our selection is on the Seattle Mariners over the Texas Rangers. What in the world is wrong with Seattle's ace, Felix Hernandez? At the beginning of the season, it was looking like the 22 year-old righthander would be a shoe-in for the American League Cy Young, but after a disasterous stretch that has seen his record go from 2-0 to 2-3 and his ERA go from 1.67 to 3.42, Hernandez now finds himself searching for some answers and trying to get back on track. Apparently, there is nothing physically wrong with Hernandez, but the team must nonetheless be concerned about his dramatic drop in performance. But on the positive side, its not that unusual for a young starter to go through some rough patches, and if there's really nothing physically wrong with him, then Hernandez should be able to bounce back from this. Perhaps all he needs is some confidence. His team's offense has been having their own problems scoring runs lately, but tonight they get to face a mediocre (at best) lefthander in Texas starter Kason Gabbard, and with the Mariners batting a torrid .303 vs. southpaws, they should hopefully be able to put some quick runs on the board and give Hernandez the cushion (and the confidence) he needs to get back to the form he displayed in April.
