Cincinnati Reds at New York Mets
At 7:10pm ET our selection is on the Cincinnati Reds and New York Mets 'under' the total. The Mets had a travel day off on Thursday so they could fly back from a tough west coast road trip that saw them play three games each against the Diamondbacks and Dodgers and they finished with a 3-3 record which they're probably pretty happy about. The Mets are probably also pleased that their first opponent when they get back to Shea Stadium is the Cincinnati Reds, who they've gone 8-3 against in the last eleven games at home going back to 2005. Shea continues to be a comfortable place for the Mets, especially for their pitchers, as their team ERA at home so far in 2008 is 2.98, good for fifth best home ERA in the Major Leagues. This no doubt comes as welcome news for big righthander Mike Pelfrey, who gets the start tonight for the Mets. Pelfrey's overall numbers are not very pretty (2-2, 5.27 ERA), but when pitching at home, Pelfrey is a very respectable 2-1 with an ERA of 3.63. The Reds will probably be without one of their biggest offensive weapons, second baseman Brandon Phillips, who is nursing a sore calf. Four of the last five games played between the Mets and Reds at Shea Stadium have gone a total of eight or less runs, and I look for another low-scoring game tonight. Take the 'under'.
