Detroit Tigers at Kansas City Royals
At 8:10pm ET our selection is on the Detroit Tigers over the Kansas City Royals. With KC's win on Tuesday night, the Royals have now defeated the Tigers in all four of the games in which they've faced each other this season. Most have been close games, with the Royals only scoring more than four runs on one occassion. Still, the Tigers must be frustrated that they haven't yet defeated the team that was once the cellar-dweller of their division. Kansas City's 24 year-old righthander Luke Hochevar gets the start tonight and while he has not been very impressive over the course of the season, he does have a 3.32 ERA in his last three starts. But two of those were against the light-hitting Blue Jays and Orioles, and Hochevar will be in a much different place tonight against the Tigers' lineup. Tigers righthander Justin Verlander dominated the Royals last season, leading his team to victory in four out of five starts against them. But this year has been a struggle for Verlander so far although he has shown signs of breaking out of his slump in his last two starts. Earlier in the year, Verlander was having control problems, but in his last two outings he only issued a total of three walks in thirteen innings. Look for Verlander to bounce back strong tonight in Kansas City, a place that has certainly been good to him in his not-too-distant past. Take the Tigers. As always, good luck...Al McMordie.
