Philadelphia Phillies at Florida Marlins

At 3:55pm our selection is on the Philadelphia Phillies and Florida Marlins 'under' the total.  One of the big questions in the National League going into the second half of the season is, will the Marlins be able to continue their improbable run and if so, for how much longer?  Even with Friday's loss to these Phillies, the Marlins are still 50-46 and just two and a half games out of first place in the very competitive NL East.  Most experts contend that Florida doesn't have the horses to keep up with the likes of the Phils and Mets, especially if either of those teams makes a move in the next couple of weeks to try to improve themselves.  But then most of those same experts would never have predicted that the Marlins would be above .500 at the break either.  The most surprising thing about Florida has probably been the performance of its young pitching staff, especially its relievers.  But even though Florida is logging a very strong 3.56 relief ERA so far, it can't come close to today's opponent in that category as the Phillies have the best relief pitching in baseball with a 2.69 bullpen ERA through the first half of the season.  With Friday's 4-2 win by the Phils, these two teams have now played four times this season in south Florida with each one of those going under the total, and I look for another low-scoring game today.  Take the 'under'.  As always, good luck...Al McMordie.
