Pittsburgh Pirates at Colorado Rockies

At 9:05pm our selection is on the PIttsburgh Pirates over the Colorado Rockies.  Pittsburgh had one of their best first halves of the season in quite some time and going into the post-break they find themselves only six games under .500.  In fact the 44 wins that the Bucs have going into the second half if the most pre-break victories this team has had going all the way back to 1992 when they went 49-39 prior the break.  Pittsburgh has one of the most exciting young players in the National League in outfielder Nate McLouth and McLouth's skills were on display on Tuesday night as the only member of this team to make the NL All-Star roster.  The Rockies have a young player of their own garnering excitement in 26 year old first baseman Joe Koshansky.  After putting up big numbers at AA and AAA in 2006 and 2007, Koshansky was leading just about all of Minor League baseball in power numbers again this season, when he finally got the call-up when veteran Todd Helton went down with a bad back.  It's unclear how long Helton may be out, but with the way the Rockies' season has gone so far, they might want to consider finding a way to keep Koshansky's big bat in the Major League lineup after Helton comes back.  This is the first series between these two teams in '08 and although Colorado won the first game on Thursday, Pittsburgh did very well in 2007 at Coors Field, taking three of four games played there.  Glendon Rusch will be making his first home start of the year tonight, but has a dismal 6.25 ERA in five road outings so far, and his teams are also 41-61 his last 102 home starts.  Take the Pirates.  As always, good luck...Al McMordie.
