TOTAL: Under 43 (-110)
LOSS for -3 unit(s)
New York Giants at Philadelphia Eagles
I'm playing on the Giants and Eagles to finish UNDER the total. Both these teams have proven to be capable of putting big points on the board. However, both defenses have also been excellent. Despite "wearing a bullseye on their back," the defending champs are allowing only 16.1 points and just 258 yards per game. The Giants have allowed 17 points or less in three straight games, including just 14 in each of their last two games. Note that the Giants have also averaged just 17.5 points on offense their past two road games. This week, Manning and co. will face an Eagles defense which gave up just seven points last week (none in the final three quarters) and which is allowing a mere 11.5 points per game (267.2 yards) at home this season. Not surprisingly, all four of Philadelphia's home games have fallen below the number, none of them producing more than 41 combined points. Looking back further and we find the UNDER at 11-3 the Eagles' last 14 games here.
The Giants have seen the UNDER go 12-7-1 the last 20 times they were listed as underdogs. During the same stretch, the Eagles have seen the UNDER go 20-8-1 when listed as favorites. That includes all three of the last three meetings in this series, as the Eagles were favored in all three of them and all three fell beneath the number. In January 2007, these teams met here for a Wildcard playoff game, with the Eagles laying -6.5 points. The total was 46.5 and the final score was 23-20. Both last year's meetings were significantly lower-scoring than that. The Eagles were laying two points at New York and the teams combined for a mere 19 points. Note that the score of the first half was just 7-0. A couple of months later, last December, they met here in Philly. The Eagles were favored by three and the total was 42.5. What happened? The game produced only 29 points as the Giants won by a score of 16-13. The score at the end of the first half was only 7-6. Look for this critical game to prove lower-scoring than most are expecting once again. *Annihilator
