New Orleans Hornets at San Antonio Spurs

Photo_nba I'm laying the points with SAN ANTONIO. Home teams have been remarkably successful in the second round of these playoffs and that's been the case in this series. Indeed, the home team has won every game by double-digits. While the Hornets have proven to be extremely tough to beat at home, as mentioned, they have yet to beat the Spurs here at San Antonio. Actually, no team has beaten the Spurs here in the playoffs yet. Catching the veteran champions in a "must win" spot, I don't expect the youthful Hornets to be able to accomplish that feat tonight. The Spurs have long been a money-making proposition as home favorites of this size. Including a 110-99 win as -7 point favorites in Game 3 (they won by 20 as -5 favorites in Game 4) the Spurs are a profitable 88-66-6 ATS (123-37 SU!) the last 160 times that they were listed as home favorites in the -6.5 to -9 range. That's slightly better than 57% over a 12 year period and includes a 28-17-1 ATS mark in that role the past three seasons. During the same stretch, the Hornets were 16-21-1 ATS as road underdogs in the +6.5 to +9 range, including an ugly 2-7 ATS (1-8 SU) record in that role this season. While both are expected to play, it should be noted that neither David West nor Tyson Chandler, two extremely important players for the Hornets, are playing at 100%. This selection is about a lot more than injuries or statistics though. It's about the defending champions having loads of "elimination game" experience and about them having a ton of pride. Hornets coach Byron Scott described the situation accurately by saying: "We know their backs are against the wall and they're going to come at us with everything they got." Knowing the Spurs are going to be at their best and stopping them are two different matters, however. The Spurs are a perfect 7-0 their last seven games here and they're 12-1 their last 13 home games overall. They were a profitable 9-3-1 ATS over that stretch with all nine pointspread victories coming by a minimum of nine points. Look for the champs to continue their homecourt dominance with another convincing victory, forcing an exciting Game 7 showdown at New Orleans. *2nd Rd Western Conference GOY
