ACE'S MLB 5* P.O.D
Chicago swept a three-game set from the Royals in the Windy City back in early June and owns a one-sided 25-7 record against Kansas City at home since 2005. The White Sox have also won eight of the last nine overall matchups in this series, including a 9-5 decision on Friday.
The Royals will send Gil Meche to the bump tonight and hope he can cool down some of the White Sox' bats. The right-hander is 6-3 with a 4.38 ERA in 13 career starts against Chicago, but he gave up five earned runs in 5 2/3 innings of a 6-2 loss at the White Sox on June 5.
Meche, who is winless in his last three starts, was reached for four earned runs and 10 hits in 6 2/3 innings of an eventual 5-4 victory in his most recent outing against the Seattle Mariners on July 12th. He did not factor in the decision.
Gavin Floyd will try to rebound from his shortest outing of the season, as he takes the hill for the White Sox tonight. The right-hander was last in action on July 11, when he was pounded for six earned runs and five hits in just 2 2/3 innings of a 7-2 loss to the Texas Rangers. He struck out two and issued a season-high seven walks.
Floyd, who owns an impressive 7-1 record with a 2.57 ERA in 10 starts at home this season, is an even 1-1 with a 3.00 ERA in three career starts against the Royals. He faced Kansas City on June 3rd and picked up the win after giving up two earned runs and six hits over seven innings of a 9-5 home triumph.
