My Handicapping and Betting Philosophy

I am a situational handicapper. I use Current Trends and Angles along with many years of handicapping knowledge to look for favorable lines. Rivalries, injuries, weather, and many more factors must be considered when handicapping a game.

My Handicapping Experience

I started Handicapping at 18-years-old. Did well during the college years as a part time handicapper (basically put myself through college).  I continued to wager with locals until I was 31. At that time most of the local guys put a small cap on my wagers or wouldn't take my action at all. That was when I started my own handicapping site called Southcoast Sports. I joined several sports monitors and won many handicapping titles over the next few years.

My Most Memorable Moment

As a professional handicapper, I do not recommend playing a significant amount of your bankroll on parlays. One thing that I do every Saturday and Sunday during Football Season is fill out an 8-team "Fun Parlay" for $10. I filled out my 8-team parlay on a Saturday back in 2005 and won the first seven games and had one game left that was a late game on the West Coast. Imagine the pressure that I endured to have to wait up until the late hours to see if I won my $10 bet. The late game won and I cashed in nearly $1000 on the ticket. I have won and cashed in on many large games over the years, but I always remember that little $10 8-team Parlay that cashed in big.

Biggest Win of my Career

There have been many important or big wins in my career. The latest being on the Colts in Super Bowl 41. It wasn’t hard for me to take Indianapolis over the Bears. It just seemed as if Peyton Manning was primed and ready for this matchup. I had my doubts after Chicago returned the opening kickoff for a touchdown then scored again with just over four minutes left in the first quarter. Indy settled down on defense after that, and Peyton and the Indy offense stole the show.

Indianapolis 29, Chicago 17

Toughest Loss of my Career

Anyone that has been involved in sports handicapping knows that there will be occasional losses to go along with the wins. A solid sports handicapper knows this and will collectively pick himself up off the floor after losing and continue with the handicapping methods that he has used with success over the years. The 1984 New Orleans Saints/Dallas game was televised on a Monday night. I had my favorite team, the New Orleans Saints in that game, and went to bed with the Saints up 27-6 at the start of the 4th quarter. Woke up the next morning and saw that I had lost 30-27 in overtime. Ouch. That is one of those games that I have never forgotten. As a result of that game, I always stay and watch the games until the very end, to stay away from that "I have won this game already jinx."

Favorite Team(s) to Play or Fade

If you read Biggest Loss of your Career from above, you know that my favorite team is the Saints. Any Saints fan that has been with them for any length of time knows that they have to be the hardest team to figure out. They seem to win the games they are supposed to lose and lose the games they should win. My suggestion to a non-Saints fan - fade.

What You Can Expect From Me

I have seen many handicappers come and go over the years. A new handicapper will pop up with a new unbeatable system, throw up a handicapping site and expect to make a fortune. While I admire a guy that believes he has the perfect system, I will be the first to let him/her know, your business does not grow overnight. It takes time and patience for you to earn trust from your customers and to grow and build a solid clientele. As my Handicapping skills have improved over the years, I have become a selective handicapper. I look over all the games on each card daily, and throw out all the games that I believe hold no advantage one way or the other. Then I take those few games that may warrant a selection, and do further research. Further research could be many things. It could be a team traveling from the East Coast to the West Coast or vice versa. It could be very little known information, like a teams main players going clubbing the night before a big game and getting very little rest, or a superstar coming down with the flu. I have experienced and handicapped all these scenarios. Once I have all the available information, I pass that information on to my customers. They can rest assured that I do not just throw selections out, just to be releasing a play. I am not afraid to put out an opinion or pass if the day's matchups do not warrant a strong selection. This method has worked very well for me for many years. I will have losing days, butI will also have many winning days. If you’re looking for a Handicapper that believes in quality over quantity, you need look no further. Get on Board and let’s have a winning experience together.

"Your best chance at winning is to take what the lines or sports books offer and not feel pressured into forcing a play. It doesn't hurt to pass every now and then. A better opportunity awaits tomorrow."

Southcoast Sports Past Picks

Cleveland Indians @ Cincinnati Reds Friday May 16, 2008 7:10 pm
This should prove to be an interesting matchup between these two teams that are both on current 3 game winning streaks. Both teams are winning with quality pitching, but Cincinnati has had the hotter bats. Cleveland will be starting Jeremy Sowers who is being recalled for a spot ... read more

Toronto Blue Jays @ Minnesota Twins Wednesday May 14, 2008 8:10 pm
Toronto has won 2 road games in a row, with one win coming at Cleveland and the other to open the series against the Twins. It seems as if the offense is starting to come around, and Roy Halladay has got to be happy about it. The Blue Jays are scoring just 3.14 runs a game in his ... read more

Seattle Mariners @ Texas Rangers Tuesday May 13, 2008 8:05 pm
Texas has now won 10 of its last 13 games, yet they are still under the .500 mark for the season. Basically this means that they are coming around after struggling earlier in the season. They do get to face a Seattle team that they have beaten 4 of 5 times already this season. Can ... read more

Houston Astros @ San Francisco Giants Monday May 12, 2008 10:15 pm
Houston has now won 4 of its last 5 games, with the offense stealing the show. They scored 21 runs in a 3 game set on the road against a very good Dodger pitching staff. Now they get Roy Oswalt starting against the Giants. The Astros have won 4 of Oswalt's last 5 starts, and should ... read more

San Diego Padres @ Chicago Cubs Monday May 12, 2008 8:05 pm
Chicago's Carlos Zambrano gets a shot at the San Diego Padres, a team that just happens to have the worst record in the Majors. The Padres are at the bottom of every possible offensive category and will have no chance against one of the hottest pitchers in baseball. Zambrano will ... read more

Florida Marlins @ Washington Nationals Saturday May 10, 2008 7:10 pm
***Game of the Week Selection!!! Today Mike O'Conner gets his first regular season start since the 2006 Season. He is replacing Matt Chico who has struggled with his starting spot in the rotation. O'Conner has pitched some in relief this season, allowing 5 hits and 4 earned runs ... read more

Arizona Diamondbacks @ Chicago Cubs Saturday May 10, 2008 3:40 pm
Ryan Dempster has quietly been having a great season for the Cubs. He has had only one opponent score more than 3 runs against him all season, and that was when he gave up 4 runs to the Reds on April 15th. Dempster has allowed only 29 hits in 43 innings of work, while holding opponents ... read more

Houston Astros @ Los Angeles Dodgers Friday May 9, 2008 10:40 pm
The line is a little higher than I would like it to be for this game, but I really like this matchup tonight. So we will play it, but reduce the units played to only 2 units. Both these teams are coming off loses, but the Dodgers have won 8 of their last 10 and are 11-6 at home this ... read more

St. Louis Cardinals @ Milwaukee Brewers Friday May 9, 2008 8:05 pm
It's not very often that I release a Play of the Day selection on a team that has lost 2 games in a row. There are exceptions to the rule, like when that team is facing a team that has lost 6 in a row. St. Louis sends Todd Wellemeyer to the hill tonight to face a Milwaukee team that ... read more

Washington Nationals @ Houston Astros Thursday May 8, 2008 8:05 pm
Brandon Backe has control issues that he needs to contend with. Walking 25 batters in 36 innings has caused his whip to ease up to 1.77 on the season, but he still has a decent 4.25 era which basically tells us that he has been pitching out of jams. He does seem to pitch better at ... read more

Milwaukee Brewers @ Florida Marlins Thursday May 8, 2008 7:10 pm
Florida's Mark Hendrickson opened the season on March 31st by allowing 6 earned runs in only 5 innings of work against the New York Mets. That has been his worst outing to date, with Florida winning 5 of his last 6 games. Hendrickson has held opponents to 3 runs or less in 6 straight ... read more

Utah Jazz @ Los Angeles Lakers Wednesday May 7, 2008 10:30 pm
What better way to start game two of this series, than to award Kobe Bryant with his first NBA MVP Award. The Staples Center will be electrified to say the least. The Lakers have scored 100+ points in 15 straight games. Long story short...their offense is clicking on all cylinders. ... read more

San Francisco Giants @ Pittsburgh Pirates Tuesday May 6, 2008 7:05 pm
San Francisco's Jonathan Sanchez has 32 strikeouts and only 20 hits allowed in his last 29 innings of work. So it doesn't surprise me that he has allowed only 6 earned runs during this streak. Now he faces a Pittsburgh team that has lost 3 of 4 and send a struggling Zach Duke to ... read more

Texas Rangers @ Seattle Mariners Monday May 5, 2008 10:10 pm
Kevin Millwood has held his Era to 3.86 despite allowing 10 Earned runs over his last 12 innings. He has been able to keep his Era low because he goes deep into games, eating up lots of innings. Now he faces a Seattle team that is struggling to score, having scored only 10 runs in ... read more
