Weekly Look at NCAAF Title Chasers

The last 2 weeks has now seen 11 teams vanish from the ranks of the unbeaten. Georgia, USC, Florida, and Ohio St, thought to be the top 4 coming into this season have now dropped from the ranks of the unbeaten. Their were 3 more causalties this week, as S. Florida, Uconn, and Kentucky suffered their first defeats. There are now only 15 teams left amongst the ranks of the unbeaten. The ACC, Pac-10, and Big East are now BCS conferences without an unblemished team. The Big-12, amazingly have 5 teams left. They are followed by the SEC with 3, and the Big-10 with 2, so only 10 BSC schools left in the mix. There are still 5 Cinderella schools, from non-BCS conferences trying to find the ruby red slipper.

Here is a look at this week's games:

LSU (4-0) @ FLORIDA:

This will not be easy for the Tigers, Florida knows it must win here to have a faint hope of climbing back into the picture. UPSET ALERT!!!

VANDERBILT (5-0) @ MISS ST.:

Noone thought the Dores would be anywhere near a dream of being here at this point of the season, but legitimized their position with a hard fought win over Auburn. They may be facing a letdown, heading to play Miss St., but if they play their game, should come home with the win.

OKLAHOMA ST. (5-0) @ MISSOURI (5-0)

Bigtime offensive matchup here. One of these teams will disappear from this column next week, and the obvious choice will be Oklahima St. Missouri at home can go score for score with anyone, and expect them to come away with the win.

MICHIGAN ST. @ NORTHWESTERN (5-0)

Mildcats, have turned Wildcats as they are a surprise entry here, but do have a solid team, capeable of defeating a good Michigan St. team here. I expect to see them in this column next week, but not a guarantee.

NEBRASKA @ TEXAS TECH (5-0):

Red Raiders have had the offense, but may have enough defense to stick around the unbeaten ranks. Nebraska was exposed by Mizzou's big offense at home, expect more of the same here.

OKLAHOMA (5-0) vs TEXAS (5-0):

Neither of these teams got caught looking ahead last week, and the Red River Rivalry will take center stage this week. I may have a big play this week on this game if the line settles to where I expect so no comment here.

UTAH (6-0) @ WYOMING:

If the Utes stumble here there should be an investigation. Cowpokes looking kind of pokey this season.

NEW MEXICO @ BYU (5-0):

BYU has it all going, and I expect them to be here til the last game of the season, when they may square off in somewhat of a non-BCS Championship game vs Utah, who could also be unbeaten for that game. If that should arise, the winner is likely to be in a BCS Bowl.

BALL ST. (6-0) @ W. Kentucky:

The Cards are a surprise to be here, but have a big experienced offense that generates points in a hurry, and should be back here next week.

TULSA (5-0) @ SMU:

Mustangs on the improve, but the distance is still far to great to muster the upset vs high octane Golden Hurricane attack.

BOISE ST. (4-0) @ S. MISSISSIPPI:

Big challenge for S. Miss at home, and could be fired up to give the Broncos a game here, but likely in the end will fall short.

PENN ST. (6-0) @ WISCONSIN:

Joe Pa's boys look like the real deal, but Camp Randall can be a big obstacle, but with Badgers having played Michigan, and Ohio St. back-to-back, might have trouble getting it up a 3rd time.

ALABAMA (6-0)
