Wednesday WNBA Research
Given that 4 teams from the WNBA East play today, just thought I would make note of the current standings in the East. At times the focus becomes so much on each game, rather than the overall picture that these 2 teams are fighting for playoff spots.
Eastern Standings
Team W/L
Detroit 14-7
Connecticut 13-8
Indiana 10-9
New York 10-9
Washington: 8-12
Chicago 6-13
Atlanta 2-19
Chicago vs. Detroit
As you can tell, it is the tops in the East in Detroit 14-7 who is playing a team that has its nearly inverse record at 6-13. Chicago overall has been an under team this year, they rank 7th in the league in scoring and 5th in the league in rebounds, Detroit ranks 5th in the league in scoring and tops in the league in rebounds, while 5th in the league in defense as Chicago is 9th in the league in defense. Remember, Chicago beat this team 76-59 earlier this year as Detroit was embarrassed by 17 on the road, undoubtedly, they will have some revenge here and likely a close to double-digit favorite for this game. Detroit also comes off a road loss to New York so they are undoubtedly irritated coming home after a road loss + revenge, on top of that, Chicago comes off a double-digit revenge win over Atlanta at home, so their guard is a bit down coming into this game. I think Detroit might just kill this team in this ballgame. Lambeer is likely to get his girls fired up for this one.
Atlanta vs. Indiana
Atlanta went down 44-17 at the half against Chicago in what was a huge revenge win for Chicago, remember it was the Dream who got their first win against Chicago so the Sky came out fired up and drilled them at home - granted, they were 73% public favorites coming into this game but that didn't matter. Atlanta needed a 30-17, 4th quarter just to make it a respectable 13 point overall loss. Now, I look for Atlanta to show some heart their next time out as this team did nearly beat San Antonio on the road outright and beat Minny on the road. Heck, it would be nice to see Atlanta as a 7.5 dog or better here (line has not come out) as I write this, Atlanta typically plays the under against such teams like Indiana, Houston and Chicago who are more defensive minded teams and Atlanta typically plays the game of their opponents. I wouldn't be surprised to see an under here as well as an Atlanta cover as the total is likely to be low and getting 7.5 points or better on a low total is well worth the Dream on the bounce-back in my opinion, Atlanta was down by just 3 to this team at the half in Atlanta earlier this year.
