Kendall Holiday Wagering News and Notes

by: Kendall Holiday

Hope this finds everyone doing well, as it has been a while.

Super Bowl Number…..who cares? The Patriots showed me a lot last weekend. This is the best football team I have ever seen. They get huge impact from a new player each and every week and last weekend was Kevin Faulk’s time to shine. The two catches he made may not have won the game the New England, but certainly kept San Diego from truly making a game of it, and allowed them to casually run out the clock. Randy Moss has not had a big game in the playoffs yet, but we think it could be coming next weekend against a bad Giants secondary in a controlled warm weather environment. The Pats will win this football game; it is just a matter of the pointspread, which is another big one.

College Hoops is now in full swing and we have been on fire of late and at 56% for the season including a nice little 12-3 ATS run over the past week or so. Kansas looks like the best team in the country to us right now, and it mainly comes from their abilility on the defensive end of the court. They play suffocating defense and are so athletic. Defensive ability does not go away in the tournament, and this Kansas team has everything it takes to get it done this season.

Keep an eye towards Waco and the Baylor Bears as the season continues. Scott Drew has a nice basketball team and has recruited very well over the past couple of seasons. Baylor is this seasons Texas A&M in the Big 12 and will likely have a top four finish in the conference. Big 12 teams on the rise look like Baylor, Kansas State, and Texas, though the Longhorns have not been covering the number at all this season. The teams on the decline or teams to look at fading are Colorado, Missouri, Oklahoma State, and Nebraska. A&M is an interesting team, who has been in freefall over the past week. They get Okie State on the road Saturday in a very interesting basketball game. The loser in that one is in big trouble in the conference race for the NCAA tournament.

The surprise team in the Mountain West is San Diego State, who lost their top player in Heath one year ago, but are playing better without him. While they lost at BYU on Wednesday night, they easily covered the large number and had a good shot at winning that one outright. They host UNLV on Saturday in a big game for both teams. UNLV has not been good on the road this season, hi-lited by a big loss at Air Force, who essentially has one player on offense in Anderson. Teams on the rise in the Mountain West are BYU, San Diego State, and New Mexico, while teams to fade look like Air Force on the road, Colorado State, and Wyoming, who has had a difficult time adjusting to their new coach.

College Midseason ATS numbers to be aware of as these teams are likely better than their public perception, at least to date.

Kansas: 11-5 ATS

North Carolina: 12-4 ATS

Florida: 7-3 ATS

New Mexico: 13-4-1 ATS

Baylor: 6-3 ATS

Pittsburgh: 9-4 ATS

Drake: 11-2 ATS

Ohio: 9-4-1 ATS

Miami: 8-1-1 ATS

Conversely, these teams are often overrated by Vegas and the public or just plain bad:

Villanova: 5-8 ATS

Alabama: 4-9 ATS

Maryland: 5-9 ATS

Arkansas: 4-9 ATS

New Mexico State: 5-11 ATS

NC State: 3-10-1 ATS

Iowa: 6-10 ATS

Keep in mind that as these numbers become jagged, Vegas will begin to change their numbers so look for value as well with the opponents of the teams listed above. In addition, the numbers associated with the teams on the lower list should become more favorable as the season wears on leading to some successful covers. Please keep an eye on us, as we are en fuego in College Hoops right now, just as we always are.

Colorado Rockies @ Los Angeles Dodgers Tuesday June 3, 2008 10:10 pm
Gotta strike while the iron's hot here, and going against the Rockies would have made you a ton of loot over the past three weeks.  Penny has done well against Colorado in the past and he faces a lineup that is weaker than in years past tonight.  The Rockies will welcome ... read more

Colorado Rockies @ Los Angeles Dodgers Monday June 2, 2008 10:10 pm
You simply cannot side with the Colorado Rockies right now, especially on the road.  This is a lineup decimated by injury, and their starter Reynolds, walked eight in his last outing.  A nice spot for a bounce back here in Chavez Ravine but the Rockies have been losing ... read more

Pittsburgh Pirates @ Cincinnati Reds Wednesday May 28, 2008 7:10 pm
