WORLD SERIES OR FORMALITY?

Unless you have been in a coma, there is no doubt your aware of the edge the American League has had on the National League. Is this the year that the NL finally gets redemption? If you look at interleague play, the All-Star game, and prior years, one would be hard pressed to reach that conclusion. The AL once again stormed through interleague play with a combined 149-103 record vs the senior circuit. Of the 14 AL teams, just 2 had losing records vs their NL counterparts, and once again the AL came away with the win in the annual farce called the All-Star game, and its new prize, homefield advantage for the World Series. It has now run the NL to 14 years without claiming a win in the All-Star game, and the AL domination has now put together a 17-3-1 record in the last 21 times they have played.
The AL's interleague mastery has not been limited to this year either. they have compiled a 576-432 mark over the NL, never finishing less than 20 games over .500. The four year tally sheet shows the NL has had just 14 teams finish above .500 out of 64 possible teams (16 a year, 4 years). The AL has seen its teams finish with just 13 teams under .500 out of a possible 56 (14 teams, 4 years). It is likened to the early NFL vs AFL Superbowls, where the difference in talent between the 2 leagues was measured in light years.
That all leads to the issue of the World Series, and does the dominance hold form? Well the answer is a resounding yes. It has taken the NL 4 years to win the number of games it takes to win 1 World Series, and that is 4. The fall classic has been more like a bear transitioning into hibernation, than an exciting foray of evenly matched teams having its audience hanging on the edge of their seat. The most tell-tale sign of all is the fact that the NL has been swept in 5 of the last 10 years!!! To put that in perspective, it took 44 years worth of World Series play before that, to find 5 NL teams swept out of the fall classic.
So as the leaves begin to turn in the Northern tier, watch your wallet closely if you decide to put down a few sheckles on the NL, because all the previous beacons are burning brightly, that the AL is ready to put another loss in the column for the NL. The AL once again won the All-Star game, and once again ripped through interleague play like a hot knife through butter, and that only means one thing. The Cub's fans go home adding to a century of frustration!!!!
