Vernon Croy's Week 10 NFL Preview

We are officially past the midway point of the season and the first part of the year has flown by. It seems like it was just Week 1 the other day. Now we're getting into the playoff hunt and the best teams are starting to show themselves. A lot of the teams that no one expected to do anything are right in the thick of things, while other teams that were supposed to contend are near the bottom. So what should we expect from the twists and turns of the NFL season this week?

Chicago vs. San Francisco (San Francisco -3). The Niners are coming off a tough loss to the Titans last week while the Bears are coming off a beat-down at the hands of the Cardinals. Both teams have looked solid at times this season, while other times they've looked bad. Which version of both teams will show up this week? This is the kickoff of Thursday Night Football on NFL Network as well. As if you didn't have enough problems getting away from the wife to watch football Saturday through Monday, now Thursday night gives you an option as well.

Jacksonville vs. New York Jets (New York -7). The Jets have been up and down this year although they are the better team between them and Jacksonville. However, as we've seen time and time again, the better team does not always win the game. The Jags dominated the Chiefs last week only to mess around in the last five minutes and almost lose. They will not be able to get by with that against the Jets this week.

Denver vs. Washington (Denver -3.5). The Broncos are coming off of two tough losses to the Ravens and Steelers. Luckily for them, the Redskins are definitely not the Ravens or the Steelers. The Redskins have been completely awful this year and there is no reason to believe that they won't be awful in this one. With that being said, they do boast one of the best defenses in the league and the Broncos offense is not exactly a juggernaut. Expect a close game in this one and if the Redskins can get a lucky play or two, they might actually pull the upset.

Cincinnati vs. Pittsburgh (Pittsburgh -7). The Steelers just beat the Broncos last week and they are riding high. While the Steelers got off to a bit of a rocky start this year, they have bounced back nicely. They have a nice passing attack with Big Ben and the ground game has gotten a boost from Rashard Mendenhall as well. The Bengals have been a nice surprise this season with only one loss on the year. The Bengals have already beaten the Steelers once this year. Can they go two for two?

Buffalo Bills vs. Tennessee Titans (Tennessee -6.5). Neither one of these teams have exactly torn it up this year. In fact, they've both been pretty bad. With that being said, the guys in Vegas think that the Titans are still about a touchdown better than the Bills. How does that make you feel Bills fans? Things are not going good right now in Buffalo although Ryan Fitzpatrick has given them a bit of a boost. Vince Young looks to keep the good times rolling in Tennessee.

Detroit vs. Minnesota (Minnesota -16). The Vikings have been too much for a lot of teams to handle this year. Match them up against the Lions and it could be a blowout in a big way. With that being said, earlier in the year, the Lions hung tough against them for much of the game. It wasn't until the second half that the Vikings took the lead and the win. The Lions will have to play very well if they hope to compete in this one.

New Orleans vs. St. Louis (New Orleans -13.5). New Orleans has reached Week 10 and they are still undefeated. Do you need anymore proof to believe that New Orleans is a legitimate Super Bowl threat? They have the best offense in the league and they just find ways to win. The Rams on the other hand...the exact opposite. They have one win under their belt and things are not looking good against the Saints.

Atlanta vs. Carolina (Atlanta -1.5). The Panthers have been pretty bad this year, but they appear to be getting better. They have put up a couple of good games here and they will give Atlanta a tough time this week. The game is at home, their defense appears to be playing better and the running game is going as well. The Falcons have been up and down. However, their offense has the ability to score on anyone at any time. This should be a close game.

Tampa Bay vs. Miami (Miami -10). The Tampa Bay Buccaneers will not go winless in 2009! However, they might only get the one win. This one will be a tough game at Miami. The Dolphins have played everyone they have faced tough, including the Saints and Patriots. The Wildcat will be a tough out for the Bucs defense.

Kansas City vs. Oakland (Oakland -1.5). This might be the only game this season that the Raiders are actually favored to win, even if it is only 1.5 points. In the last meeting, the Chiefs dominated the Raiders up and down the field and still managed to lose the game thanks to giving up a touchdown on the last drive of the game. Someone has to win this game.

Philadelphia vs. San Diego (San Diego -2). The Eagles and Chargers have been playing well lately. The Eagles are a better team, but the Chargers are at home. This one should be one of the best games of the week.

Dallas Cowboys vs. Green Bay (Dallas -3). Dallas has played much better in recent weeks. The Packers just lost to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. These are two teams that are going in opposite directions.

New England Patriots vs. Indianapolis (Indy -3). Not often do you see the Patriots come in as underdogs these days. However, when you travel to Indianapolis to face the undefeated Colts, you're pretty much going to be the underdog. This should be one of the best games of the year between two awesome teams.

Baltimore vs. Cleveland (Baltimore -10.5). Only 10.5 points? This could be one of the worst possible games for Monday Night Football that they could have picked. However, the Ravens have not exactly been world-beaters lately after putting up a terrible showing against the Bengals last week.
