Thursday's NFL
Pittsburgh vs. St. Louis
There is nothing more the Rams would love than to upset the Steelers. After all, the Rams are eliminated from the playoffs so this can be considered as their playoff game. Keep in mind what has Pittsburgh truly done on the road? The Steelers are 2-4 on the road and they come off back to back losses and have lost their last 5 of 6 covers. Pittsburgh has played 4 of 5 unders of late. The Rams are struggling to score points of late but they do get Bulger back for this game. Pittsburgh is still the #1 defense in the league in yards allowed, #2 in the league in passing yards allowed and #3 in the league in rushing yards allowed despite losing back to back games. The Steelers defense is banged up coming into this game and the Rams defense has been questionble all season. When all is said and done, I think this Rams hang in tough and have a shot at even winning this game outright as St. Louis will likely be rocking despite a 3 win season.
Thursday's NBA Research
New Jersey vs. Miami
The Nets have lost 6 of 7 ballgames yet a line of -4 opened up overnight and it quickly moved to -2. The Nets are looking to get revenge against the Heat who they lost to earlier this year 91-87. The total for that game was in the low 170's and the total for this game is set in the high 180's borderline 190. New Jersey has lost 6 of their last 7 covers. Miami has played in 7 of 9 overs of late. Keep in mind that Zo' Mourning is out for what seems to be 3 months and that could be one of the reasons why the line went down early. Tough game to call here, but a lean on the Nets as the Heat will be struggling for depth although Miami comes off a tough loss on a back to back and will look to rebound. Nevertheless, lean on the Nets here.
Lakers vs. Cavs
The Cavs have beat this team the last 3 games including a 114-108 win on the road the last time these 2 teams faced each other. The Lakers have covered 6 of their last 8 and they come in facing a Cavs team that is furious off their embarassing loss to the Knicks. I expect the Cavs to play fired up and play well much like they did against the Pacers but the Lakers are hot and they were a huge public play against the Bulls and cashed in with success. A lean on the over here after Cleveland struggled on offense yesterday.
Houston vs. Denver
Denver is 10-4 at home and they had an embarrassing loss to these Rockets earlier this season losing 109-81. Houston however comes off a tough loss to Dallas and Orlando and have lost their last 4 of 5 ballgames. Houston has lost its last 4 covers on the road while Denver has lost its last 4 covers overall. Denver has a big revenge angle, but they had that revenge angle against the Lakers and lost outright. The Rockets come off an upsetting back to back losses and will look to avoid their 3rd straight loss. I just don't trust Denver.

Elon +3.5
This is not going to be a popular pick, but there is no reason that Penn should be laying points to anyone right now. I follow Ivy League basketball very closely and UPenn is actually laying points to a team given tha they have won just 2 games and they come against the Citadel who are outisde the top 300 and Navy who are outside the top 250. Frankly, Elon is a sound team that I have ranked in the top 175 and I have already taken them once against Georgia on the road and I will take them again here. Their other win against Monmouth on the road is against a team that is outside the top 300 as well. Elon however is a .500 team that has yet to pick up a road win but keep in mind they have played Virginia Tech, Georgia and VCU. Elon has yet to pick up a road win here, but they are a 125 spots better than UPenn in the power rankings and I will take my chances with Elon to pick up their first win on the road as this is a solid public fade. With Wake covering as the huge public favorite yesterday, I find it tough to think that UPenn will cover as a huge public favorite today. Upenn has lost their last 4 covers and Elon should bounce-back well after their loss against Chattanooga.
