Mr. East's Weekly Look at NCAAF Title Chasers

The curtain is about to come down on the NCAAF regular season, and we have 6 teams that remain unbeaten as we head into December. The amazing thing about it is, all of the 1 loss teams have disappeared, so we are left with 6 unbeaten teams, and 0 teams with a single loss, obviously meaning the BCS Bowls will have a couple 2 loss teams in them. Let's take a look at what lies ahead.

CINCINNATI (11-0) @ PITTSBURGH (9-2)

This is a big spot for Cincinnati, against a potent team, that has yet to lose on the season at home, and has designs on a Big East Championship and BCS Bowl bid. Lots at stake here, and the oddsmakers have this one even. UPSET POTENTIAL: HIGH

NEW MEXICO ST. (3-9) @ BOISE ST. (12-0)

There will be no upset here, and the Broncos are heading for a BCS Bowl. They will have run the table at 13-0, and again remain as the top dog in a non-BCS Conference as they annually are in the BCS Bowl hunt. UPSET POTENTIAL: 0

FLORIDA (12-0) vs ALABAMA (12-0)

The Tide barely escaped their first loss vs arch rival Auburn, but got here perfect. Both these teams have been iron clad on defense, but inconsistent on offense. Public is split down the middle on this one, and this is what amounts to a play in game for the National Championship. The winner is playing for the Championship, and that will likely be against Texas. The Gators are a 6 point favorite as of now. UPSET POTENTIAL: MEDIUM

TEXAS (12-0) vs NEBRASKA (9-3)

The Horns have their destiny in their own hands, which has pretty much been the case the entire season. The Huskers have a big defense, but the Horns are just as good on the defensive end, and have a much better offense. Unless the Cornhuskers get a huge game from their defense that results in a defensive score, this one should go to the Horns. UPSET POTENTIAL: SMALL

TCU (12-0)

The Horned Frogs have completed their season unbeaten. The reality is they would need a lot to happen to reach the Natonal Championship game. They would need a Texas loss, and a Concinnati loss, and then they are still not guaranteed to make it, but would certainly be in the arguement. A BCS Bowl however is certainly a given for this team. A matchup with Boise St. would be very intriguing.

That's the setting for this week, and unless something goes haywire, Texas will play the winner of the Florida/Alabama SEC Championship game for the National Championship. Odds favor it to be the Gators, but the Tide won't go easy, and certainly could win.
