Houston (54-59) at Cincinnati (52-63)
Thursday, 8/7/2008 7:10 PM ROY OSWALT (R) vs. JOSH FOGG (R)
The Reds and the Astros begin a series between each other today, with both teams coming from losing series against the Brewers and the Cubs respectively. Roy Oswalt (8-8, 4.74 ERA) will make his 3rd outing since coming back from an injury and in his two previous outings, even though the Astros won, Oswalt wasn't still on his real level, as he was limited on his number of pitches, however we could watch a positive evolution from the 1st outing to the 2nd, as not only he pitched one more inning, as he managed 7 K's vs 5 in the previous game.
On the other side, the Reds will use Josh Fogg (2-3, 7.57 ERA), but he has been terrible lately. On his last 3 outings, he had 6.60 ERA and 1.933 WHIP. In his last two games against the Nationals and the Rockies, he had 19.7 and 25.4 P/IP, which shows how much he struggled in closing the innings. I like the spot of the Astros in here, as they have the s better pitcher in the field, who is 19-1 vs Reds on his career and also Cincinnati is 0-8 in their last 8 games vs RHP. However I don't like to bet on road favorites with such a low price, so probably I'll stay away from this one.
Oakland (53-60) at Toronto (58-56)
Thursday, 8/7/2008 7:07 PM JUSTIN DUCHSCHERER (R) vs. A.J. BURNETT (R)
The A's lost again yesterday and they are now in a 9 games losing streak and if they lose once again after the Blue Jays, it will be the first time since 1994 that they will reach a double digits losing streak. Today Oakland will send Justin Duchscherer, who has the lower ERA of all league pitchers with just 2.33 ERA. However that hasn't been enough for Duchscherer to collect wins after wins, as he is just 10-7 this season. The explanation for that is simple: the offense of the team is horrible and it's only necessary to see that the team hasn't reached 0.300 of efficiency in their last 6 games and they haven't even reached 0.200 in 4 of them.
On the other side, Toronto will send AJ Burnett (13-9, 4.57 ERA), who has been doing well recently, with the team winning on his last 3 outings. Actually the team is 7-2 on his last 9 starts. His sequence of runs allowed has been really good: 4-1-1-2-1. He allowed 4 runs against the Rangers, which is actually a good sign, as the Rangers have been on-fire lately. In this game there is no major edge in the duel of the SP. For me, the A's would have some value if they weren't on a major slump. The offense of the teams will struggle today, but the totals line is just 7 runs, so no value in here neither.
NY Yankees (62-52) at Texas (60-55)
Thursday, 8/7/2008 8:05 PM MIKE MUSSINA (R) vs. SCOTT FELDMAN (R)
The Yankees finally defeated the Rangers in this series by 5-3, which guarenteed me a win in my RL in the Yankees. Today the team will try to finish the series with a 2-2 tie and for that, they will send Mike Mussina (14-7, 3.44 ERA), who will be looking for his 15th win of the season. He has been in great form recently and even though he had a non-quality start allowing 6 runs in 5 innings against the Orioles, he bounced back immediately against the Angels. His sequence of runs allowed of Mussina shows his consistence: 2-6-0-1-2.
On the other side, the Rangers will send Scott Feldman (4-4, 4.97 ERA), who has been capable of the best and the worst in consecutive games. After a quality start against the White Sox, Feldman had two letdowns in a row against the Mariners and the Blue Jays: 9 runs in 11 innings. Curiously these two pitchers have faced each other already this season and both had very good performances, with Texas getting the win. For today I believe the Yankees are the favorites, but at -150 on the road against the Rangers is too low. I like the under in here, but the situation with the Yankees catcher worries me, as we all know what the offense of the Rangers is capable of.
Tampa Bay (68-45) at Seattle (44-70)
Thursday, 8/7/2008 10:10 PMANDY SONNANSTINE (R) vs. FELIX HERNANDEZ (R)
The Rays managed to win yesterday at home against the Indians, when they were down by 4-7 in the 9th inning, ended up winning by 10-7. Today they begin a new series against the worst AL team, which opens good perspectives for the Rays to continue their good momentum, as they will send Sonnanstine, who hasn't been consistent lately, allowing 2-5-3-6 runs in his last outings.
On the other side, Seattle will send Felix Hernandez, who is consistent lately, however the lack of run support has caused him some defeats. Hernandez has never allowed more than 4 runs in his last 10 starts, which is a good stat to prove his consistence. I have to confess that I like Seattle's spot in here. Hernandez has been consistent lately and the Rays had to travel from Tampa to Seattle, however they have the momentum on their side and that's always important. If Seattle was a small dog in here and surely I would back them in these conditions.

Yesterday the D-Backs and the Cardinals opened the series in an authentic high scoring affair game, with the home team winning by 8-6, in a game where he had 4 HR and 24 hits. Honestly I think the bats are still hot right now, but curiously today I think we're gonna have a good chance ... read more
