IC's Liberty Bowl Preview

by: IndianCowboy

East Carolina vs. Kentucky (Liberty Bowl, Tennessee).

The .500 SEC team here will face off against the Conference USA 9-4 squad. Kentucky is 106th overall on offense, but has a defense ranked 35th in the nation. Kentucky closed the year on a struggle as they ended up the last 3 including losing to Tennessee on the road 10-28, losing to Vanderbilt at home 24-31 and losing to UGA 38-42. East Carolina is ranked 88th in the nation on offense and also sports a defense ranked in the top 50. East Carolina is ranked 44th in the nation defensively and 31st in points allowed. East Carolina closed the season defeating their last 6 of 7 opponents including Tulsa, UTEP and even defeated West Virginia and Virginia Tech to start the year. Kentucky can speak of sound wins including Louisville on the road, against Arkansas and Mississippi State on the road. When thinking about Kentucky it seems that this team did not have a “big” win this year. Think about it, their 6 wins come against the likes of Louisville on the road (a team that is not going bowling this year), Mississippi State (another team not going bowling), Western Kentucky, Middle Tennessee and Arkansas at home. East Carolina has consequently nearly beaten NC State on the road, WVU at home and Va Tech at home. They have an offense that is ranked better as well as a defense ranked better as well. I think East Carolina gets up for this game and does well.
