NBA Tuesday Research
Phoenix vs. Milwaukee
I honestly wonder can it get any worse for this Bucks team on the road. Once again they come off getting their buts spanked and this time it was in the hands of New Orleans as this team is 16-25. However, every one seems to be riding the jock straps of the Suns which is a bit concerning and these Bucks do come home after a tough loss and the last time they were at home they did not play well and lost to the Warriors. Thus, this team has a couple of reasons to step up at home today. These 2 teams did meet earlier this year and Phoenix ended up winning in a relatively tight game 122 to 114 as Milwaukee covered the 12 point chalk and the game went over 216 which is roughly where this total is set today. Phoenix has covered their last 3 ballgames including spreads of -10.5, -13.5 and -1.5 against the Nets, T-Wolves and Lakers. Believe it or not it's been a while since the Bucks have lost back to back covers, so as hard as it is to believe, I wouldn't be surprised if the Bucks covered here and more importantly, if this game went over here.
New Jersey vs. Sacramento
If you read this blog every day, there should be little to no surprise given how much I love the Kings given the return of their starters and the likelihood of an ATS run. I have commented relentlessly on the fact that if indeed the Kings get healthy, similar to when Stephen Jackson came back for the Warriors, I stated that this team will go on a ridiculous ATS run. When Jackson came back, I believe the Warriors went on to cover nearly 10 games in a row as they desperately were looking to get back into the Western Conference playoff picture after losing around 6 to 8 ballgames in a row. Well, the Kings are the same way looking to get back into the playoff mix. Having said that, the Nets do have revenge as the Kings won outright on the road at New Jersey earlier this year, a game that I called outright for the Kings successfully. The Nets however have lost their last 5 ballgames and consequently their last 5 covers as well. I typically do not favor the over in Nets ballgames but after their terrible performance on the road against the Suns, I wouldn't be surprised if the Nets have a better showing today and this game goes over - after all, the Kings dropped 100 at Detroit and typically they score about 8 points better at home. I have this game pegged more for the over and wouldn't be surprised if the Nets ATS slide continues.

College Basketball Tuesday
Michigan vs. Wisconsin
Typically in a game like this I lean on a dog, but I do not trust Michigan nor Wisconsin one bit. Folks, Michigan is a very fickle team that lost by nearly 20 points on the road against a top 125 Illinois team and faces a Wisconsin team that is top 10 in the power rankings but is a team that beat Northwestern by just 12 points who is a top 200 team. I think this is a gutter of a game.
Drake vs. Creighton
What is interesting about this game is the lack of respect that Drake is getting given that this team is 16-1. Folks, this team has received votes for a national ranking and they are catching 6 points on the road as a team that is 5-1 on the road thus far. Is it warranted and is this team legit is the question? Well, all I go by is numbers as that is what has led to my success so I will refer to them. Drake is a top 15 power ranking team according to my spreadsheets - their only loss comes to a St. Mary's team - their first game on the year - guess how much they lost by? 6 points. However, St. Mary's is a top 20 power ranking team. Thus, what ranking is Creighton then? Well, Creighton is a top 50 ranking team. Personally, I feel that Creighton should have been listed as a -2 favorite and not a -6 favorite according to my numbers. Creighton is no joke either - after all, they won by similar margins and sometimes even better margins on the road against such conference foes such as Northern Iowa and Wichita State. But, then again, Creighton has not beat a top 50 team all year and their closest defeat was against a top 75 St. Josephs team by 6 at home - this is where the magic number of 6 originates from in the line today in my opinion for these reasons above. I lean on Creighton obviously because I show them as a team that can win outright by 40% and with 6 points, my natural lean is always on teams that can win outright with more than a 30% chance and are catching 5 or more points typically. Drake also has revenge working in their favor from last year.
Tennessee vs. Kentucky
I love the SEC and am looking forward to this game but was surprised to see the line - is Kentucky really getting this much respect because they beat Vandy at home? They sure are. If they had not beaten Vandy at home, make no mistake about it, this team would have been dogged by 8 points for this game but because their last home game was a success and the fact they come off 2 road losses in conference play, the line is where it is today. Regardless, what do the Vols need to do get some respect? I personally have them winning by roughly 9 points in this game as I love Bruce Pearl in an ATS standpoint as he is not afraid to lay the wood on teams in conference. Here me closely, Bruce Pearl is your Steve Spurrier of College Basketball. I'll say it again, Bruce Pearl is your Steve Spurrier of college basketball. This man took his team into South Carolina and pounded them by a score of 80-56 (24 points). This team beat a top 25 Xavier team by a greater margin than the spread today and Kentucky is no top 25 team. Kentucky could play spirited basketball today but I wouldn't be surprised if the Vols pull away in the second half and hit the cover today. I do dislike the fact that 2/3rds of the public is on the Vols.

Yesterday's Analysis
Siena -21 (POD) (Winner)
I"ve always said that when you see 66% of the public on an underdog, shy away from it and favor the - the favorite as public underdogs that are heavily favored rarely do well. I"ve provided countless examples including the fact when the world was on the Pack on the road against Dallas as the Cowboys covered or when the Mavs were in Utah and the world was on Dallas and Utah ended up covering with relative ease - well, much is the same case today when the Saints play Canisius. Sure, Canisius beat Niagara at home, but keep in mind this team has been dismal on the road and I believe they are in for a let down here. My spreadsheets are what has led me to have the success I continue to have in basketball and I have them as one of the worst 20 teams in the nation referring to Canisius. They are playing a Siena team that is one of the top 100 teams in the nation. Sure, Canisius has a great deal of revenge from losing by 30 to this team at home but Siena has beat similarly ranked teams at home by 25 on average. I also like the line movement I have seen offshore. Yes, Canisius beat Niagara at home who is also a top 100 team, but don't forget that this team lost 51-102 to Rider, the same team that lost by 11 to St. Peters who is outside the top 300 and lost to Penn State 40-93 - a team that Siena is better than in my power rankings by a few spots. Canisius is in for a letdown here and given this team's propensity to get blown out and the public riding them so hard, I will take Siena here. Canisius is 0-6 ATS following an ATS cover showing their inconsistent play and this team is 1-7 ATS on the road while Siena is 4-0 ATS against teams with a losing straight up record meaning that they do well in a potential blowout game.
St. Mary's -26 (Winner)
Once again, the public sees a lot of points and jumps all over the jockstraps of a Loyola Marymount who is ranked in the top 30 in the nation. I want you to follow me closely here. This is the same situation for one of the other selections today. St. Mary's had a very tight ballgame against Pepperdine and I can promise you that their coach is furious for having such a tight ballgame with Pepperdine after Gonzaga blew out Pepperdine on the road. Now, this team played a 5 point game against St. Mary's and that infuriates the St. Mary's coaching staff likely. Hell, that is why this line is as high as it is as this St. Mary's team who is a top 20 team in the nation will be furiously looking to blow out someone out of the gym today and St. Mary's fits the bill. Sure, Loyola can come around for the backdoor here and no, that would not surprise me, but keep in mind that Loyola is just 1-7 ATS in their last 8 games as a road underdog and 3-13-2 ATS in their last 18 road games overall. This St. Mary's team beat a Santa Clara team 76-45 by 31 points who is a top 175 team and I certainly think they have the potential to hammer a team that is top 300 in the nation.
Pepperdine +9 (Loss)
I think Pepperdine finally showed some heart in their last game when they went on the road to lose by 5 points to St. Mary's who is a top 20 team in the nation in the power rankings. That came off the heels of getting blown out by Gonzaga and this team has just 4 wins on the year and desperately needs to win their 5th straight ballgame - do they do it today - no, but I do believe that this team has potential as they are ranked in the top 200 while Santa Clara is ranked in the top 175 and my spreadsheets show that as a 4 to 5 point win. Remember, Santa Clara also played St. Mary's and lost by 31 points a score of 45-76 - the same team that St. Mary's lost by 5 on the road to. Does this mean they are equally as good, no, but it does mean that Pepperdine has the potential to play on the road and the same caliber on any given day, just depends on who shows up. Santa Clara also lost to San Jose State by 3 who is a top 200 team so why not Pepperdine who is desperately looking for their 5th win and will play with additional confidence playing such a tight game with St. Mary's? St. Mary's is 0-4 ATS following a straight up win and the Waves of Pepperdine are 6-1 ATS in their last 7 ballgames as an underdog of 7 to 12 points.
