Going Under the Radar in AFL and WNBA

Now that the NBA playoffs have ended, many amateur sports handicappers simply "pack it in" until football season, not wanting to get involved during the summer months in a time intensive sport like MLB which involves a "daily grind" of games and is, quite frankly, not a very entertaining spectator sport for many fans, due to its slow pace. The dilemma that many fans face is that they’d like to "stay involved" in sports betting during the summer months for a number of reasons (such as building their bankroll for the upcoming FB season, keeping their handicapping skills sharp, or simply staving off boredom), but with family vacations and so many things to do at this time of year, they would prefer to do so only on a limited basis and don’t want to get "sucked in" by a "time gobbling" sport like MLB.
So is there a safe and sensible summer middle ground for these "middle of the road" fans? Actually there is, in the form of Arena Football and the WNBA, both of which offer attractive betting alternatives for the "dog days" of summer, in at least the following two respects: (i) since there is not a lot of betting interest in either of these sports, they don’t commend nearly as much attention from the line makers as the more heavily bet (by sports handicapping professionals) sport of MLB, with the result that the lines are pretty "soft," and there is not much line movement, and (ii) neither of these sports has a daily full slate of games like MLB, with WNBA averaging just two "busy days" (with 5-7 games) per week, and AFL having 90% of its games on the WE, with an occasional game on Friday and/or Monday night, but none once playoffs start next WE. Moreover, these games can be handicapped with many of the same skills and techniques that amateur cappers use for NFL (for AFL) and NBA (for WNBA). And now is a good time to"jump in" and get involved with one or even both of these sports, with several AFL playoff spots still up for grabs in this final week of the regular season, and all AFL teams having established a "track record" by now, with each having played at least 15 games, and the WNBA season now more than a month old, with all teams having played at least 10 games and some as many as 14.
For example, at Nite Owl Sports we had been concentrating our efforts on the NBA playoffs for the past several weeks, and had a very successful long run of wins and profits since early May, going 12-5 in our last 17 NBA picks for +17 units for our subscribers, including 6-2 for +14 units on our sides (ATS and money line) picks and winning series pick in the final series between Boston and LA. But with NBA now done for year, and with AFL being the only sport in which we were currently "involved," we checked out the slate of games last night in WNBA, along with the home and road ATS and totals records of the teams that were playing, and came up with two obvious picks to launch our Top Ten WNBA campaign, with a pair of easy 3 unit winners on the Connecticut Sun and the under in that game, plus a strong 3 unit "unofficial" recommendation to tease the Sun to the under, which gave us total winnings of + 9 units on that one WNBA game, not too bad of a start. And in today’s lone WNBA game, we have a strong 3 unit sides pick.
In the AFL, it’s been a different story, as we have been involved since opening week, trying to duplicate our "monster season" of last year, in which we went an incredible 45-16 (74%) for +32 units!! While this year has not been "off the charts" like last year, we are still easily the top AFL capper at Top Ten, with a documented (see Top Ten AFL leader board) +30 units on our last 31 AFL picks, including a very hot run of 8-4 for +21 units during past two weeks. As we said above, this is the final WE of the AFL regular season, and we have spotted some games that present great wagering opportunities, including teasing them to each other for added value and potential winnings.
