Can Lakers win? (Plus: getting profit in the WNBA)
by: Andre Gomes
NBA: Can Lakers win?
If at the beginning of the season we would ask Kobe Bryant if in the playoffs the Lakers would be considered together with Boston as the favorites to win the championship, probably Kobe would say that we were insane and to leave him alone, while he was searching for another ballclub. But with the development of Bynum and later with the Gasol trade, here they are, with most power than never. Don't forget that the Lakers are 27-5 since Gasol joined the team! But most important than that is that the team looks unstoppable in the playoffs: 6 games, 6 wins and 6 spreads covered. Kobe is the new league's MVP and he is helping his team mates to improve. However I think the Lakers are yet to struggle and surely they will end up struggle somewhere.
The Lakers in these six playoff games just needed to care about the offense and we are yet to watch a playoff game where their defense is actually tested. In other words, we are yet to see the Lakers having to play an ugly game in order to win, in where their defense will need to be at their best in a match against a team like the Spurs, Boston, Detroit or even Cleveland. Until now this hasn't happened. In the six playoffs games they have played until now, the Lakers have always scored more than 102 points, to an impressive average of 115 ppg! We all know the mythical expression that the championships are won thanks to the defenses, but until now the Lakers have just won games thanks to their attack. They really need a real test to their defense. Will that just happen in the final against Detroit or Boston?
WNBA: Looking for profit?
I've read somewhere in the internet that WNBA is the most worthless sport in the United States. No great matches, no dunks, no tv ratings and in part I have to agree with it. Probably I won't be able to say in a WNBA recap article "Have you seen Candice Parker's play yesterday?" because besides very few people have watched the game, there are even people who don't know the player I'm talking about, so in this points of view I must agree with the previous statement. However that doesn't prevent us from getting excellent betting opportunities in this sport. I would even say we have an excellent opportunity to make some profit and that's why we are here and also why I work daily on this.
After this statement I will prove how the WNBA is really a great opportunity to make profit. For that I will compare last season's WNBA regular season to this season's NBA regular season. First of all, there were 1230 games in the NBA regular season. And in all these games 369 dogs won them outright. This gives us a percentage of 30.4% of dogs winning outright the games. Last season there were 221 games in the WNBA regular season and in these games the dog won the game outright by 93 times! This gives an amazing 42% of upset wins during the WNBA regular season. The most impressive is that from these 93 upset wins, 50 of these upsets (54%) were done by teams which had a spread equal or bigger than +3.5 points. So I am saying that we had 50 wins during the regular season where the winner of the game was at least at +125 (2.25) to win it. Can you continue to say that the WNBA is worthless?
For today I have one NBA pick! (8-3 run!)
SIDE PLAY on Utah vs Lakers today! The Lakers are showing why they ended the regular season as the best team in the Western Conference, going 6-0 SU and 6-0 ATS in the playoffs until now. But now they are going to Utah, who had the best home record in the regular season with 37-4. But will that be enough to stop the huge momentum of the Lakers right now? I know the answer!

Chicago Sky @ Indiana Fever Wednesday July 2, 2008 7:05 pm
Chicago caused one of the major upsets of the day by winning outright at Minnesota, but for me it wasn't an upset at all, as I knew the Sky would be competitive and that's why I took them plus the points yesterday. Chicago is a young team and those players need confidence to compete ... read more

New York Mets @ St. Louis Cardinals Tuesday July 1, 2008 8:15 pm
The Cardinals will try to get their fourth win in a row today to keep the run which continued yesterday with a win against the same Mets by 7-1. For today they will have the right handed Todd Wellemeyer as their starting pitcher, who is 7-2 and 3.46 ERA this season. Wellemeyer was ... read more

Chicago Sky @ Minnesota Lynx Tuesday July 1, 2008 8:05 pm
I have to say that 7,5 points is just too much for Minny tonight due to the circumstances of this game. This team of Chicago hasn't been doing a great season, but just like Minnesota they are a young team, who needs confidence to compete and eventually have some surprising results. ... read more

Duel between two top teams of the league, with Detroit going to San Antonio. Detroit comes to this game with a terrible spot, which was also created by the team itself. This will be the last game in a brutal schedule, where they have played 7 games in just 11 days. The team had a ... read more

Houston comes to this game billed as the hottest team in the moment right now and why not? They have won four games in a row and all of them being underdogs. Today they played at Connecticut being a 9,5 points dog? This makes no sense at all. I love the spot for Houston tonight, ... read more

Washington was great in their last game by committing the upset of the season, winning at LA by 77-74 when they were a 12 points underdog. In fact they are in a nice run of 3 consecutive road wins and they will be looking today for the fourth one in a row. "It gives us a lot ... read more
